Customizing Your Characters

This page details some of the ways to make your Dungeon Coursers characters unique, including:
  • Coats of Arms are custom emblems you can place in the upper right corner of your characters' masterlist image.
  • Character Profiles allow you to set a custom image on your character's page, as well as biographical info, pronouns, and more!
  • Pets are companions for your characters that boost Art & Writing rewards, give you Coin and rewards as you bond with them, and bring you weekly items from the dungeon.
  • Weapons raise your characters' stats, award Art & Writing bonuses, and look badass as hell.
  • Accessories can be added to your character's masterlist image to further customize their look.

Coats of Arms

In the top right corner of every character's masterlist image is a Coat of Arms; by default, every template has the purple and green Dungeon Coursers emblem, but you can replace it with a design of your own! How you use this feature is entirely up to you. Some players create a design to represent themselves and use it for all their characters. Other players give every individual character, bloodline, or even in-character group their own design. There's no wrong way to use them!

These guidelines may help you create your own Coat of Arms:
  • Coats of Arms can be drawn or rendered in any art style
  • They may be any shape you like
  • There is no specific size, but Coats of Arms may not cover the face reference or leave the box on the right side of the Dungeon Coursers template
  • You may never use copyrighted symbols, real-world religious symbols, or lettering of any kind
  • Simpler designs are easier to understand when shrunk down; we recommend using simple shapes and 3-4 colors
If you aren't sure where to start, this Free Heraldry Constructor .PSD by MedievalMore or the in-browser COA Maker may help!
"Masterlist Image" refers to your character's default reference. It is the template your characters is designed on, and it serves as your character's thumbnail on the Character Masterlist!

Character ProfilesEdit Your Characters

You can customize your individual character's page by changing the main image, their bio text (including custom HTML and images), and personal information. To do this, click on your character to go to their profile. Then, on the sidebar on the left of the page, find 'Edit Profile' under the Settings heading. Clicking that link will take you to a form where you can edit your character's information.

Here's what changing each field will do:

  • Name: Changing your character's name will cause their name to be displayed next to their ID number everywhere on the site. Your character's name can be changed anytime, as often as you like.
  • Profile Link: If you've uploaded your character to Toyhouse, putting the link to your character's Toyhouse profile here will create a button to their TH profile on their Dungeon Coursers profile.
  • Profile Image: Inset the direct link URL to an image of your character to replace the masterlist image on their profile. The masterlist image will still be visible in a tab behind your 'Profile Image' art.
  • Pronouns: The pronouns you type here will appear in your character's summary. You can type any pronouns and as many as you like, and they can be changed anytime.
  • Height: The height you enter here will appear in you character's summary. The height should be measured in hands, and each hand is 4 inches (for example, 14.1h, 14.2h, 14.3h, 15.0h). The average height of a Dungeon Courser is between 14.2h and 16.0h, but this is just a suggestion. You can enter any height you like here!
  • Profile Content: In this rich text editor, you can code a custom layout for your character's bio, share some images, or just type in a description of their personality. Style it however you like!
Rearrange your character: You can change the order your characters (and the folders containing them) appear on your profile by dragging and dropping them on your Edit Characters page.

PetsView All Pets

Pets are companions you can attach to your characters. Pets can be found on quests in the dungeon, traded from other players, or purchased with Coin from the site's NPC Merchants! Collecting pets and attaching them to your characters is a great way to customize your horses, tell their unique stories, and get rewards! Every character can have one pet at a time.

Pet Bonuses

When submitting art or writing to a gallery, including your character's pet in a submission will earn bonus Coin! Check out the Art & Lit Scoring page to learn more.

Attaching a Pet

To attach a pet to one of your characters, go to your My Pets page and click on the pet you'd like to attach. This will open a popup modal with a list of links. Select 'Attach Pet to Character' from the list, and choose the ID number of the character you'd like to attach. After the pet is attached, you will be able to give the pet a name and profile just like your character!

Bonding with Pets

When you visit an individual pet or character's page, you will find a Bond button that will increase the bond between them. This button can be clicked once per day per pet. When a new bond level is reached, you will receive Coin and rewards!

Maximizing a pet's bond will award the Beastmaster Achievement to its attached character.

Pet Drops

Every week, each pet will bring you items they found in the dungeon! Every type of pet has its own drops; rare pets bring more valuable items!

Check out your My Pets page to collect all your pets' finds at once, or visit your pets individually to see when their next finds will be ready!

Pet Details

We use small pixel sprites to represent the pets onsite, which means that the specifics of your pets' design, size, and personality are up to you!

When you write about or draw your pet, feel free to take some artistic liberties in how you depict your unique pet, as long as the creature's general appearance and color palette are roughly the same.

Weapons View All Weapons

While equipped, weapons raise a character's stats, even allowing them to surpass a stat's maximum level. Unlike regular items, weapons are visible in your Armoury rather than your inventory. Clicking a weapon's image in your inventory will open a pop-up that allows you to attach it to a character much like a Pet. Your character's weapon can also provide a bonus when included in gallery submissions. Check out the Art & Lit Scoring page to learn more.

Once a Weapon is attached to a character, it belongs to that character. It cannot be detached, only deleted. A character can only hold one weapon at a time, so equip wisely!

Legendary Weapons (marked with a purple star) can even have their artwork replaced with a custom image, so you can style your character's weapon entirely.

Weapons can be found in the dungeon, traded from other players, or... hmm, that's odd, there doesn't seem to be a Merchant selling any weapons yet. Surely one will arrive soon.

Equip with care! Weapons cannot be moved to another character once equipped, and a character can only hold one at a time. To switch out a character's weapon, you will have to delete the old one.

Accessories

Accessories are pre-drawn apparel, jewelry, armor, scars, hairstyles, and other cosmetics that you can add to your character's Masterlist Image. Like Weapons, they are kept in your Armoury rather than your inventory, and can only belong to one character once attached . Unlike weapons, however, there is no limit on how many Accessories a character has equipped at once, and you can mix and match which you'd like to be visible on the Masterlist Image at any given time.

To attach an Accessory to a character, click on its picture in your Armoury and attach it to the character in the pop up menu.

Every Accessory comes in multiple colors, and owning one color means you own them all. You can choose which color looks best on your horse, and change the color anytime, even after it's been equipped! Try out your character's look by downloading the latest version of the Accessory PSD or grabbing a transparent PNG of the accessory from this folder. Then, save a version of your Masterlist Image with the the Accessory added and submit the updated image by completing a Design Update from your character's profile.

Awards, Achievements, and Heirlooms

Awards are unique, often magical, accessories that are given directly to a character. There are two kinds of Awards: Achievements and Heirlooms.

Completing certain quests or accomplishments onsite rewards a character with an Achievement; each Achievement comes with a unique  Accessory and associated cosmetic that its holder can claim and apply anytime. High-level horses will be able to pass these cosmetics onto their children as Heirlooms. See the Awards page for more information on Awards.
