[DD3] Ancient Songs

  • You come across the frame and torn skin of a drum lying on the Moor. Have you heard music before? Do you like it? And who would play music in a place like this?

The battleground of the moor was still fairly new to Shepherd, but traveling with Logue always helped ease his mind. He saw his own fair share of horrors in the previous two levels, but nothing quite like this. Ancient weapons sunk into the earth and bones of all kinds littered the grounds he walked on. It made it almost impossible to not step on the shells of those that had past, and Shepherd had hoped when he accidentally turned some to dust, that their past lives would show him forgiveness.

Logue was a very helpful traveling companion, and Willow did an excellent job at sniffing out artifacts and momentos of long ago. The pair distanced themselves from Logue just a bit and would duck under wooden beams into what looked like somewhere where some being must of lived, though most of it had rotted and crumbled to ash. All of this piqued Shepherd's curiosity though, and he and his fox companion continued to inquire about what could have lived here.

Eventually, as they left the skeletal remains of a home, they came across the fram of an old drum. The skin was tattered so music could no longer be made on this forgotten instrument, but it got Shepherd thinking. He remembered when he was young and his mother would sing to him. She taught him how to whistle into the long blades of grass and imitate the birds on the surface with it. It brought a small smile to the black courser's face. He missed his mother so dearly, and he truely hoped she was well. Maybe when Shepherd returned to home, he could teach his daughters the same bird songs his mother taught him.
