[DD1] no more stalling, i guess
Another day of trying to claw her way back up the ladder, out of the gutter, and back into the good graces of the company. Lucia was stuck on just how long it seemed to be taking. Sure, she'd breached their trust. Sure, she'd gone against orders. But it was all for a good reason. It was all for an important reason. It hadn't been her own knees shaking, like the commander had alleged. She really had felt the tremble in the floors, and there really had been a cave in. Trusting her instincts over orders shouldn't have repercussions like this. Not as far as she was concerned.
Grumbling to Capo, she sets about packing her bag for the day. "I just wish she understood," a heavy sigh, the sympathetic clicking of her companion's mandible enough to make her feel justified. Reminding herself that she shouldn't complain so openly until they're alone, Lucia returns to packing. Carefully, she rolls the thin blanket and enlists his help in holding it still to tie. "No telling how long we'll be gone this time." A sleeping mat if she needed it, but something she could also pull around her shoulders like a shawl if she got cold. It was in good shape, bearing the company's crest in perhaps bolder fashion than she'd like.
Walking the store cupboards, she's got her pick of snacks. Not that Lucia would take more than she needed, but being a member of the company had its perks. A few dried apples, some cave carrots. Capo's clicking at the potatoes makes her pause, a wry smile on her lips. "Just because I love you, but only one. They're heavy, you know." Tucking away a russet potato in her satchel as well, a fond glance at her little pet. It's alright. He's worth it. Treats are important, as well as sustenance, and she'd eat them in a pinch too.
They'd been going deeper lately, she needed a light source. A small lantern, sturdy and spartan, is the next thing to be loaded into her bag. An extra fuel canister... maybe they'd go deeper today. Lucia is getting better about facing her anxieties in the dungeon, and with Capo she doesn't feel so alone. An emotional support beetle. Matches and a strip of birch bark, wrapped tightly and tidily, so they'd stay waterproof, also tucked away. Things she'd need to survive. "If we camp tonight, we can even have roast potato. Should be enough for a little fire." Whoever they had maintaining the store cupboard was doing a good job.
"Alright, no more stalling I guess." Though Lucia was trying to make it sound like a joke, there's more truth to her words than she'd like to admit. Around her neck, the company's insignia hung heavily. Feeling more like a shackle than anything else these days, though she'd once been comforted by the weight. Now it just feels like expectations she's not meeting, shoes she's struggling to fill. Chasing any lingering uncertainty from her head as best she can, the girl turns to enter the dungeon once more.
