Moving away from the strange hall with the music/whispers (Dog and Hare still couldn't quite agree on what it was), the two coursers slowly became aware of a change in their environment. Vines, sweeping around them, began to grow thicker and juicier. No, wait. Just thicker.

What was juicy was what they came across next.

Dog stared down at the gaping maw of the pitcher plant, intrigued by its scale and longevity, for it had many bones visible through the murky fluid.

"Careful," Hare said, almost as much to himself as to Dog. The bay shuddered at the thought of losing his new companion to a glorified tulip.

Dog gave him a very quick look, as if to say "obviously, but thanks," before he carefully moved closer, hooves testing each step as he went.

"How do you think so many fell in?" Hare mused, eyeing the vines.

Did he...

Did they move?

He stepped away, almost in fright as the shifting shadows caused by Dog's wisp familiar caused him to think the Vines were coming to sweep him into the plant, like so many hooves dusting sticks away from prime clover.

He felt a tug at his rear and caught himself before he slipped, nostrils flaring gently.

Hare looked back appreciatively at Dog, who had his tail in his mouth and an uncharacteristically panicked look in his eyes for but a moment before he blinked it away.

"It's easier to fall in than you'd think," Dog muttered.

The bay and black moved away from the pitcher plant, stopping a good distance away to make camp. Dog kept looking back at the distant shape of the plant and Hare considered him for a long moment.

"Why did you say that?" He asked, "About the plant?"

Dog blew a "hm?" as he tore his attention away from the distant plant.

It took a moment of uncomfortable silence before Dog sighed.

"It's a long story, but to be short about it... I had a brother who got a little too familiar with one of those."

Hare's eyes widened slightly and he looked over at the plant before returning his gaze towards his companion and the blue flattering thing above his head.

"I'm sorry to hear that," the bay said softly.

"Yeah. Well." Dog said, clearing his throat and shaking his mane. It was clear he didn't want to go into too much detail. "Things get slippery."

You venture through a tunnel lined with vines that grow thicker and meatier as you proceed. Eventually you come upon their source: a gigantic pitcher plant, large enough to dissolve even a Courser should one fall into its wanting mouth. You can even see the silhouettes of your unlucky brethren’s bones behind its skin. How do you avoid such a fate?

I'm on my phone and wordcounter.net said it's 404 words so I hope that's right otherwise the joke falls flat lol
