[Trade] Spooky stories by the campfire 👻
"... No matter how many times they cremated his corpse, somehow he always came back from its ashes, his body reeking of burnt flesh as he kept looking for his head, forced to use another Course's skull in its place. The townsfolk told me that he will terrorize the region until his head is returned to him, going after those he suspects might have it and trying their heads in a desperate attempt to find the one that belonged to him!" Ingrid reared as she finished her story on a frighteningly triumphant note.
And when she did, her shadow stretched out, distorting as the fire flickered, adopting shapes that didn't seem to match Ingrid's silhouette. For a moment, Percival could've swore he saw the ghostly Courser manifesting behind her. His hooves became itchy with the primal instinct to ran away from the perceived danger, his body shivering as the tale came to an end.
"T-that can't be true, right? It's just a spooky campfire story, isn't it?" Percival wondered out loud, eyeing Morgana, sitting to his right.
Ingrid landed on the ground with a muffled thump, giggling mischievously, "Well, all legends have a grain of truth in them".
"I-I know!" Percival frowned "...but a headless horse bent on revenge!? It has to be a fictitious story! Folktales, and nothing more!" he blurted, almost as if trying to convince the others too.
Morgana rolled her eyes, slightly amused by his reaction. It was ironic for an historian like Percival to be scared of such childish tales, the kind you would tell foals to make sure they'd behave, but the Harvester's season always brought a different aura to those stories and legends. As unlikely as it seemed, could it truly be ruled out that such a spirit didn't exist somewhere? Weirder things had been seen deep in the Dungeon and some of them were bound to reach the surface eventually. Perhaps they already did.
The thought of it was... unnerving, but also captivating, in the strange way all the macabre things are. Percival watched with horror as Morgana asked a simple question:
"Hey Ingrid, can you tell us another scary story?"
