[DD1] the tale of cassius II
Clutching the dagger, he wandered into the cave. The overgrown leaves covered the entrance, dangling down like spiderwebs, brushing over his shoulder and along his spine. He shivered, he wasn’t usually scared, but it was painfully late into the night, which meant danger awaited.
His hooves clacked against the stone floor, the light from the moon fading behind him. Lighting the lantern secured to his headgear, a flutter could be heard. His attention was immediately drawn to the ceiling, where he noticed hundreds of bats staring down at him with blood red eyes. “Oh fuck.” He muttered under his breath, “Draculas.”
Now, there were two ways this could go. Cassius could either perish, or he could fight his way through. Fortunately he wasn’t one to back out, so he chose the latter.
The bats aggressively flew down in a swarm towards him, giving him milliseconds to prepare. Blood splattered on his face as he flung the dagger around, the metal glimmering in the lantern light. Bats fell to the ground around him, splashing in the pools of blood beneath his feet. One meticulous bat stalked him like prey, attacking from behind. Cassius let out a roar of pain, swinging the dagger behind him and eliminating the pesky thing.
His breathing was heavy as he looked around the cave. He had managed to kill them all without much damage to himself; he had gotten lucky. The wound on the back of his neck was pulsating and burning, but it was nothing he hadn’t dealt with before.
Sucking in a deep breath, he carried on through the cave.
