Kensa lay across from him, her dark hide nearly disappearing into the shadows of the dungeon around her. Shadows. Dungeon. Huh?

"Eseld? What're you doing here?"

Their sister raised her head, shaking her mane in an irritated fashion, dark eyes narrowing across at him. "You do understand the concept of sleep, don't you, little foal?"

Tamsin brushed off the sharp bite of Kensa's words, she'd always been the quickest to snap. The closest in age to him, only a season older than Tamsin, Kensa had grown up with him running at her hooves, always wanting to tag along with her. With two older sisters to be compared against, Kensa had resented him, Tamsin was sure. But she was here now, so she must not be so mad at him.

"No, idiot," Tamsin snorted, laughing a little. "I mean here, in the dungeon." She always called him little, small, Tamsin did not think so much of it until she stood up… and up and up, his sister towering over him in a way she had never been able to do, even when Tamsin hadn't hit his growth spurt yet. "… Kensa?"

His sister shook her head, stamping a hoof on the ground. Sparks flew from it, blinding white-hot, and he realised that they weren't the right colour. Kensa's hooves were black, like most of his. Not shiny and near-silver. Not metal enough to set off sparks on the floor.

Tamsin looked up again, impossibly high, to try and see his sister's face. But it was disappearing into darkness above him. So high that her head was hidden amongst clouds, roiling and stormy. This wasn't his sister. Something was wrong.

"Kensa? Kensa!" They turned on a hoof, searching desperately around, as large metal pillars began to stamp around him, trying to crush him. He was dodging them now. No longer sure where to look for his sister. Where was she? She had been right here, sleeping beside him in the dungeon, with-

Tamsin awoke with a start, a much lower, rougher voice bringing him back to consciousness. "Wake up, kid. You're having a bad dream," Terrence said roughly, stomping away from him on metallic hooves, heading back towards a softly glowing fire, a teapot bubbling over the flames.

"Terrence?" Tamsin murmured sleepily, blinking over at the merc as he tended the fire. The fire they'd lit before Tamsin had nodded off. He hadn't intended to, not really, they were only supposed to be stopping here for a short while to catch their breath, before continuing on. "Where's Kensa?"

The dark woad turned his head towards him, regarding him for only a brief second with those intense pink eyes, before shaking his head, turning away again. "That who you were dreaming about?" Terrence asked, staring into the flames.

Dreaming. Of course he'd been dreaming. Kensa wouldn't have been here with them. It was just a dream…

"Yeah," Tamsin muttered sheepishly, voice rough from sleep. They blinked slowly at Spice, sitting on top of Tamsin's gear, definitely judging him for being so dramatic. Poking his tongue out at the fire ant, Tamsin stood, shaking himself as he padded softly over to join Terrence by the fire. "My sister."

"Ah," the woad commented simply, letting the silence hang between them. Not something that had been overly common, in their quest so far. Between Terrence's desire to speak of anything and everything to do with his adventures, and Tamsin's need to ask anything that came into his head, there hadn't been much quiet between them. "Thought you said you came alone down here?"

Tamsin nodded quickly, not wanting Terrence to think he'd been lying (the guy was cool as heck and he could really ruin Tam's reputation if he thought he had been fibbing to him). "I am. My family are surface dwellers." Everyone else he'd met here. Which, really, had been rather nice. He felt a little like he belonged with the others. Even this little delve with Terrence only meant he'd be heading back to Smudge and Frisk with new things and stories to tell them about.

Tamsin's weird dreams had been getting more and more frequent though. Maybe it wasn't a function of him but of the dungeon itself. "Do you have nightmares, Terrence?"

The older horse snorted, laughing, shaking his head. "Course not. Nothing to be scared of down here for me." He gave Tamsin a wink, showing shiny white teeth. "Even sisters."

Tamsin laughed, taking over the prodding of the fire. He'd say, in the days to come before Terrence and he parted ways, that he didn't dream of family again. He lied, of course.
