The one good thing is that if you were hungry in the Overgrown Caverns, you didn’t need to look far to find something to eat.

The vegetation in the caverns grew strong and hearty, and supplied more than enough to feed all the coursers that made their way through to the lower levels of the dungeons. The Guild had taken it upon themselves to conduct numerous studies to determine which plants were edible and which were not - lest someone end up swallowing some poisonous flower or root.

This advice had been readily given to Rhinegraves when he first entered the dungeon, but he had been far too focused on starting his journey, so he had shrugged off the very good, very important advice and flounced off. He’d grown up eating plenty of different things, his stomach could surely handle some dungeon plants.

Suffice to say he was feeling very ashamed after the delicious looking shrub he was sure was safe left him lying in the middle of a pathway, groaning in pain. He could feel the poison seeping into him, sapping away all his strength. The acid was surely eating him from the inside out, and in a few hours, all that would be left of him would be some bones. Rhinegraves had just about resigned himself to his fate when he felt something land on his side. Lifting his head, he found himself staring at a great brown bird with sharp talons that was staring at him. Oh, great. The vultures had already found him.

Letting out a heavy sigh he dropped his head onto the pile of moss he’d gathered as a makeshift pillow, and closed his eyes. He didn’t even think to try to tell the bird that they’d get sick as well, he was too tired and too sad.

“Mon dieu, Toulouse, what have you found?” A voice cut through the air, abruptly ending Rhinegraves’ wallowing. The sound of hooves grew closer and closer until they stopped, and the nearly-dead courser felt a warm breath on his forehead. Peeking open one eye, he found an incredibly shiny courser standing over him, concern painted on his incredibly handsome face.

“My friend, are you ok? You seem to be rather low!” The courser let out a sharp laugh at that, before kneeling down and nudging Rhinegraves, not exactly gently but not harshly either. “Come now, up up up!”

Rhinegraves stood up rather shakily, feeling queasy. Maybe the plants had a butterfly or two living on them? The bird, Toulouse, flew over and landed on her owner's shoulder, still staring at him with those piercing eyes, as if she was waiting to take a bite out of him. His face felt flushed, and he just managed to croak out. "Are you here to rescue me?"

The courser, who Rhinegraves could now see was decked out in glittering golden armour, let out another loud laugh and tossed his head back. "It is rescuing you need? Very well! Let I, Triomphe, whisk you away to safety!"

Well, if this was the type of rescue party the dungeon sent out, Rhinegraves would keep an eye out for those plants.

In the caverns, the growling of stomachs makes an echo. What do you do when you (and/or your party) get hungry?
