Garumar, or Garu as he preferred, strode easily down the barren path leading into the caverns. Strange that it was barren considering this place was often called the Overgrown Caverns by others. He snorted softly, bending down to sniff the rocks. Eh, perhaps there was just something about these rocks the moss and lichen didn’t like? His shoulders shrugged in a semblance of a shrug as he righted himself, looking back at the fox that was draped over his rump. “Eh whatcha think Jirza? Keep going?” He asked, the fox yipping back at him as she sat upright. “Thought so.” He chuckled and eased into a lazy jog, his hooves echoing back on them.
As they continued it got darker and darker to the point that Garu’s gait slowed to make sure that he didn’t smack into anything. His ears pricked, alert for any swish or scrape that indicated another being was in front of them. However it was all for naught. Things were eerily quiet to where the only sounds besides his steps was that of his and his fox’s breathing. His brow furrowed softly. Suspicious.
They rounded a corner and he halted, his head jerking high as he was suddenly bathed in the red moonlight. Had he already been gone that long and last track of time down here? Jirza as well sat up, whimpering softly. “Ey ey it’s alright Jirza, just the Harvest Moon.” He murmured, reaching back to nose the fluffy fox lightly who only hunkered down. His own skin crawled as he stopped, letting his eyes adjust back to the light. Something felt….different. He wanted to shake, but didn’t want to dislodge the frightened fox so he decided that perhaps it was best to keep moving.
It wasn’t long before they escaped the moonlight bath from the opening in the cavern ceiling and once free of the light Garu paused again, simply waiting for his eyes to adjust a bit. Jirza however moved up, her paws braced against the base of the ether courser’s neck as she stood, peering into the darkness. He chuckled softly. “Oh? You gonna guide me?” The fox yipped as if she was agreeing, bush of a tail wagging lightly. “Aight, we’ll try it your way tonight then.”
blood moon + dungeon dive combination, it's fun when they work together nicely
As you venture into the caverns, the light from the surface grows dimmer and dimmer. Darkness will be your constant companion from here on. How do you navigate the dark? Do you adapt to it, or fight against it?
