Kirito's search for answers
Once again as the night approaches, kirito readied himself for what was to come. If it was anything like last night, then he will need to be ready for what is to come in store for the black swordsman. He motions for his eagle to go ahead and stay inside the house for the night, and it reluctantly flaps its wings and flies to its perch area that it has made for itself. The sunset paints the landscape in its oranges and reds as kirito makes his way over to the dungeon's entrance where he first met the harvester. As he walked through the town, he saw all the other coursers rushing into their houses and turning out the lights until yet again it was a ghost town throughout the town. Kirito waited at the entrance for a bit, lost in thought as he wondered what events will transpire tonight and as the time ticked, the sun got lower and lower until the moon started to rise, bringing with it a stillness into the air as not even a cricket chirped or a frog croaked. The night air was still like before and a wave of dread penetrated Kirito's body. As the bright moon rose into the sky, the shadows hit the position they needed to align with along the ground once again and the huge fifteen foot tall creature emerged from the shadows once again to do its tasks it had for the evening. The hooded skeletal creature noticed the black courser right away and motioned him to come near. “If you want to know more, go encounter the spirits of the dead and see what they have to say” . With that, the harvester made his way down into the dungeons' depths and left kirito to his own devices. With that kirito sat for a moment, wondering what his next move should be to even find these spirits that he was instructed to meet. He remembered that there was a cemetery not too far from the south of town, so he figured there would be as good as a place to start the search for answers. Making his way through the town the sound of his steps hitting the bricks of the walkway echoed through the streets and the cold air sent a chill as he walked. Coming up to the edge of the town he could see off in the distance the location he was attempting to get too. The old cemetery had been there for as long as he could remember, but this would be the first time he actually took a trip there. Kirito approached the old rundown cemetery's entrance and the overarching archway had letters falling off, so he couldn’t make out what it was supposed to say. As he entered he could feel a presence off in the distance so the courser wandered warily to make sure there weren't any enemies around. He could see at the edge of the cemetery a humanoid shape that was see through, and had a pentacle with two coursers’ heads laid over it, each appearing to bite the other in the neck. This same sigil marks much of the human armor found in the Moor of Sleep. Intrigued by the odd sight and surprised that something like this was out of the dungeon, he made his way over to see if he knew anything. “Hello I was sent here to get information, can you hear me?” Surprisingly the human spirit nodded as it turned to look at the courser who had approached it. “Can you tell me what you are doing here at all? Why are there ghosts just appearing” the human spirit nodded again, as he thought for a moment on how to answer the question. “The spirits that you see bearing the crests are of different clans long ago when we were still alive that were at war.” With that, after answering the question the ghost seemed to have vanished and kirito quickly ran to where he had stood, wanting more answers. With no luck of the human spirit, he decided to wander around the cemetery more to see if he could find another spirit to talk to. Some time had passed and kirito was starting to wonder if he should look somewhere else. In that moment however another spirit could be seen near one of the gravestones. He quickly ran over to see a huge orc bearing a fabulously-tusked boar. It had green skin and huge tusks in its mouth and he seemed to be more visible than the last spirit he had encountered. The orc turned around at Kirito's presence and quickly tried to swing his arms to attack kirito. “Hey I'm here to talk, not fight!” He tried to talk down the enemy before him, but he was not having it as he kept swinging his arms over and over. As it seemed no use, kirito pulled out his sword and had no choice but to take him down. He quickly ran at the orc and used one of his sword skills as it glowed bright blue and slashed him in two with ease. The ghostly spirit faded away leaving nothing left of it as kirito shook his head while putting away his sword. Hoping he will find luck with the next spirit, he continued to look around the cemetery for the next encounter. In the middle he found a huge mausoleum and he could see a light coming from under the door. As he opened it slowly, it creaked loudly and on the other side there was an elf bearing a thin hind. “Why were yall fighting a war and what does this have to do with what's happening now?” kirito asked quickly before he would get attacked again and the elf turned around slowly and seemed to go ahead and answer the question that was given. “This was an ancient war long ago and all the races were fighting for land. Back then, the harvester wasn’t restricted like he is today, so he would insite these wars to happen so he could collect all the souls.” With that, the elf had disappeared like the first spirit, leaving behind nothing but a whispering wind through the door. Lost in thought about what the elf had said, he went ahead and wandered around some more to see if anything else would show up to give him answers. It was getting late into the night, so kirito decided to take a break and eat some rations he had prepared during the day, and sat down next to one of the graves to eat. In the distance he could see running at him a dwarf bearing a managed goat trying to swipe his food away. Kirito quickly got up and held the food away from the spirit in front of him. “If you answer a question for me, I will let you have the rest of the food” at which the dwarf quieted down and waited for the question to be asked. “Do you know why the harvester is collecting all the souls?” the dwarf thought for a moment, wondering if he should go ahead and answer the question, but went ahead and responded. “The reason he collects all the souls is to build up power he had lost a long time ago, but what he is going to use that power for, I have no idea.” With that, kirito handed him the food and after he had eaten his fill, disappeared like all the others. The night was almost over, so kirito made his way out of the cemetery and pondered over the information he had learned, walking through the field between the cemetery and the town and through the lonely streets, making his way back to his home. There were a lot of things to think about, but at this moment he was ready for bed so he went to his bedroom and fell asleep for the night. Like the night before he started having dreams of the events that happened that night. He saw the creatures that he had met, and the harvester. Why was he having these dreams? Kirito normally didn’t have dreams like this so he wondered if it had to do with all the souls and power that was going to the harvester? He thought as he woke up in the middle of the night and wondered if other courses were having dreams as well about the harvester. So the next morning came and he went to the guild where courses would all meet up and asked around if anyone was having strange dreams, and they all shook their heads as they went on their way. He wondered if it was because he was interacting with the harvester so much that he was having these dreams? The only way to find out is to go to him the next night, so he went ahead and prepared the night ahead of him.
The human ghosts you encounter while serving the Harvester bear a sigil you may recognize: a pentacle with two Coursers’ heads laid over it, each appearing to bite the other in the neck. This same sigil marks much of the human armor found in the Moor of Sleep. Others, however – especially humanoids of other species – bear different sigils on their banners and armor. You may meet an orc bearing a fabulously-tusked boar, a dwarf bearing a maned goat, or an elf bearing a thin hind. Who are these restless spirits? How do you interact with them?
