Echoes of the Past

It could not be said what brought her out from the depths, out into the world above ground again. Perhaps she wanted to catch a glimpse of the Harvest Moon, or maybe she was curious if the legends of the Harvester were true. Either way she stood there now bathed in the red glow looking down at a sight but she felt only she could see.

She stared down at the pumpkin patch below her in frozen contemplation. Her mind was filled with the sounds of clashing metal and screaming creatures. Her brain flooded with images of horse and human alike clashed in a bloody battle. Was this what it was like in the world of her grandfather? Was this what the battles he fought looked like? He had never mentioned bipeds before so she knew it couldn't be this battle.. but still she felt a kinship nonetheless.

It was beautiful, in its own bloody and gruesome way. The way each side moved with such passion for their cause. So she did not wish war on anyone, she couldn't help the subtle tug at her heart telling her that somewhere deep within her she had a desire to fight in such a battle. Perhaps it was simply a desire to feel such passion and be surrounded by such passionate creatures.

The yellow flowers that grow alongside the pumpkins on the Harvester’s Soul Vines tend to grow in strange patterns. On a ledge, you get a bird’s eye view of one such patch. Thousands of flowers bloom in squares, like soldiers in opposing battalions. Uneven scars of emptiness mar the field. At night, it is said, the entire valley resounds with the clatter of armor, screams of Coursers, and shouts in human language. Do you dare to visit the dead in the dark?
