[DD2] A Pattern within the Patternless
Had it not been for her skeletal servant's quick motions, Exuberance would already be well-done courser. A skeletal hand had snapped out to block her path as the first burst of flame went up in front of them, followed by an uneven set of flames further down the hall. Though of course startled, Exuberance was not completely terrified of the way forwards.
She watched the flames for a while, just watching how each vent opened and closed and how random it seemed in relation to one another. She thought to speak, to explain her thoughts and what might end up being a solution, but when she turned her head she noticed that Doctor was already on the same page as her, if not a few pages ahead.
He had marked down each of the vents and scratched lines into the wall to symbolize how often they opened and closed. Despite each of them seeming random as a whole, each vent had a set pattern that they would go through. Some stayed quiet for long periods of time, while others had extremely short windows to move through.
Exuberance went up to the wall that Doctor was scratching on, beginning to scratch at it herself in order to try and figure out the timing that they would need in order to pass. Between the two of them, it didn't take long for a solution to make itself known. However, there was still the trouble of making it through the path with the timing they had settled on.
Neither of the two were cowards, but they were calculated- making sure that the pattern that they had seen was correct by watching the flames for an additional few minutes before taking the first step forwards. Admittedly, it was a bit clumsy- with Doctor sometimes pushing Exuberance forwards if she was hesitating too much, and Exuberance pulling Doctor by his cloak if he did the same. Still, they got through it without any burns or scrapes, which was a miracle in itself.
Safe to say, they would be finding another way out on the way back. Whether that be because of the fear of forgetting the pattern by the time they returned, or because of the inability for either of them to remember the pattern backwards even now... that was up for debate.
As you enter a narrow corridor, your hoof lands on a loose cobble and triggers a trap. intermittent flames thrust up from the vents lining the floors. Courser be nimble – how do you make it to the other side?
