[DD3] A Broken Mirror

There was nothing like a good meal after a successful dive, that much Janus and Terrence could both agree with. They certainly deserved a nice meal before they went on their seperate ways after their latest find. A downright flawless amulet without even the slightest bit of wear and tear around it- such could not be said for the rope that it was attached to, having crumpled to dust as soon as Janus so much as looked at it. Still, a perfectly intact amulet of metal and gemstone was nothing to scoff at.

Terrence had taken his time to look closer at it while the two of them ate, putting it up to various lights and watching as the lamps in the room bounced off of the gems. However, he had gotten silent after a while, looking between Janus and the amulet a few too many times for the other courser's liking. Thankfully, Terrence spoke before Janus could assume he was up to no good.

"Hey, Janus. Can I see that band of yours real quick?"

An odd question, but not one that Janus was opposed to. He slapped his hoof on the table, showing off the part of his leg where the band laid. It was a simple golden band with the Shattered Mirror coat of arms attached at the front in a similar gold. The chimera watched as Terrence put the amulet next to his band, placing the symbols on each side by side. "...Don't they look the same to you?"

Immediately, his eyes rolled to one side. "Terrence. My coat of arms is a mirror. It's going to look similar to a lot of different things." Terrence, however, shook his head, huffing. "No- not like that. I mean it looks exactly the same. At least look at it properly before making me sound like a moron."

Janus looked down as he was asked, and his brow quirked ever so slightly. Terrence hadn't be lying. Not only were both symbols framed by the same diagonal line in the back, carved in similar manners, but both symbols had the same amount of glass shards in the image. That in and of itself wasn't enough to make Janus curious- but the fact that they were in the same exact position was another story entirely. "What... that's... impossible."

"Impossible, more like incredible! Aren't you excited to find evidence of your guild going back as far as the buried kingdom?" Terrence started, but instead of seeing any sort of smile on Janus' face, he saw more confusion. "But... The guild's not that old. Karellian started it with the rest of us only a few months ago. And it's not like he could just guess something this exact from something he had only seen once or twice... Even if he brought something like this home... there's no way it could be this exact."

Now that Terrence was hearing this, he had to admit that it was a bit... suspicious, in multiple different ways. He slid the amulet over to Janus, who quickly took it and placed it in his bag. It was another one of their wordless exchanges that didn't need any explanation. Terrence wasn't going to do anything useful with it, and if taking it back to his guild would help Janus get some answers to his questions, he wasn't going to keep it from him.

Your latest treasure is a beautiful amulet. Score! But you can’t help but notice something odd about it: the symbol engraved on it looks eerily similar to your own coat of arms. Huh.
