hubby search, part 3

One of your possessions drops from your pack into the lava. Most materials will melt at these temperatures, and before you can reach it, it’s a lost cause. Blast it. What did you lose?

“NOOO!” cried Guin, scampering down the side of the slope on her dexterous cloven hooves. Alas, it was no use: the glittering trinket swiftly turned molten in the lava and lost its shape until it was an unrecognizable wad of heated metal. Luckily, the ether-coated horse who had taken to following her caught the mare by the tail before she could tumble down and meet a similar fate.

The Heraldic sobbed as the odd horse helped her back up the hill, quivering. “It's gone,” she cried, “it's gone forever.”

“What did you lose?” Fetch questioned, gently. She hadn't seen what it was the white-flecked mare had lost, but she could only assume from context it was of great importance from the way Guin's sobbing wracked her frame.

“My earring,” wept Guin.

Fetch tried to suppress a frown. She cared not for possessions or adornments, but perhaps the earring was sentimental?

“It was so expensive,” she sniffled, dispelling that assumption completely. “I barely got to even wear it and now it's gone forever!”

“You could... buy another one?” Fetch offered, confused and repelled by this disproportionate display. Luckily for her, this seemed to work.

“That would be fun,” the other mare choked. “Maybe my Artie will buy me an even nicer earring.” This idea seemed to calm her down. Her sniffling stopped, and soon enough the gold-and-seafoam Courser's tears dried and she abruptly returned to complete normalcy.
