[DD2] Röl #6 - Rudeness
He took the left turn in the fork, making sure to scratch the wall as he turned. So far there hadn’t been any complicated tunnels. He was fairly certain he kept the map angled right and kept well track of where he was. There were always some key places to look out for. The previous explorers had made sure to mark unique looking stones and easy to distinguish formations in the cave walls. Stuff that wasn’t too easy to destroy so that any explorer afterwards would be able to find it. If something had seemingly gone missing there was a symbol on the map that marked that the previous explorer couldn’t find it so that the next explorer knows to check if they could find it. It wasn’t complicated. Röl enjoyed the rules, even if no-one would check that he followed them. The map was the old mapper's map. He had many and he took well care of them. Copied them if he needed a newer copy of an old, well used one. If enough Coursers couldn’t find a mark he would remove them and try to find other marks made by other Coursers and update the maps. It was perhaps the most perfect thing for someone new to adventuring. The experience on these pieces of papers were invaluable. Especially for Röl who could read a map but not recreate one. It made sense to him when it was all drawn out, but if he tried to draw it out. He just didn’t make it work.
He was studying the map under the torch light when a voice could be heard behind him.
HEY COURSER.
He pinned his ear back and looked behind him. Even Charlie the Inconvenience, his companion Pygmy drake, looked behind them with his nostrils flared. It was quiet for a minute before more calls started to fall in. The voices were childish. Taunting. Rude. He didn’t answer them as he seeked the darkness with his eyes. Slowly the imps made themselves known. It was the first time he met imps but he had heard of them. They weren’t fast, but they were tricky. They liked to get on your nerves, forcing you to make mistakes. Trap you.
Röl looked over his map quickly. He could most likely get away from them but if he accidentally took the tunnel that led to a dead end he would be stuck. He would then have to fight himself out of the situation. He didn’t want to. Even if the imps voices were echoing in the tunnels there were still a whole bunch of them waiting in the shadows.
Röl rolled up the map and started moving quickly, Charlie hugged his mane tightly as he bobbed in the wind on his back. Right. Right. Left. He kept telling himself it. He couldn’t forget it. It was the way out of the tunnels. Right. Right. Left. He refused to let the thought escape his mind. He could still hear the imps call efter him.
