Prompt: You come upon a giant face in the wall. Its eyes glow red hot and its mouth gapes in an eternal shout of rage. You realize that this mouth is actually a door, and it appears to be your only way forward. What do you do?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Logue led Alon into the Earthen Furnace. Heat blasted through the tunnel as they entered and the ether courser could already smell the smoke and feel its effects on his throat. He was not exactly thrilled to be somewhere so hot and smoky but he did this all to benefit the valley, the place he called home, and further their knowledge of the dungeons and the things within. The courser, who was usually a forest dweller, brought all kinds of tools to help map out where they were going, to take notes of the things within, and an empty saddle bag draped over his back so he could carry with him any interesting artifacts he might come across. One other important thing he brought with him was casks of water, two of them, both very large.
“Are you sure you can carry all that?” Logue asked.
“I’m alright!” Alon chimed.
Logue shook his head. He was sure the newer dungeoneer would get tired eventually but figured it was good for him to learn while he was under the supervision of a more experienced courser. Less dangerous for him to learn now rather than when he went diving on his own. At least Logue hoped the other courser would learn.
They turned a corner and approached a wall where there was an opening. It was no plain tunnel though. Around the entrance was a detailed frame in the shape of some kind of face. Alon had never seen anything quite like it and the shape of the face was not familiar to him. It had a nose just above the doorframe’s center and two eyes above that embedded with red jewels that glowed without any source to cause the glow. The face was smooth and mostly flat but had what looked like hair or a mane on the very top. The entrance was its open mouth, the top rimmed by the upper lip, and Alon could see hints of pointy things along the top he assumed were meant to be teeth.
“What is that face supposed to be?” Alon asked.
“Unfortunately I could not tell you,” Logue replied.
Before the guide could lead them through and into the tunnel beyond, Alon had pulled out a journal and had a drawing utensil between his teeth. Carefully he began to sketch out the thing onto the page. Logue just shook his head and sat where he was, waiting for the new dungeoneer to complete his art piece. As soon as Alon was satisfied he put his stuff back into his bags and stood.
“Alright, I’m ready to continue,” he said.
Logue nodded, shaking his head once he turned around.
“Might want to note this down. Always be careful and check for traps.”
The tan colored courser picked up a decent size stone between his teeth and with the swing of his head he tossed it into the tunnel. It landed right beneath the teeth and the stone tile it bounced off of sunk for a moment before rising.
CLICK!
Those spikes had been for more than just show. The sound indicated some mechanism had been triggered and the spikes dropped from the ceiling and slammed into the floor below. They were large spears made of metal, made to withstand time and the heat. Alon stared at them with wide-eyed horror. One wrong move and he could have been impaled. He was grateful he had chosen to hire a more experienced dungeoneer to guide him.
“I will definitely note that… should we worry about the rest of the tunnel? Should we really be going this way?” Alon asked.
“Well, it’s the only way forward, and we should definitely worry about the rest of the tunnel. I’d recommend grabbing a rock or something long to test the path ahead,” Logue replied.
Alon looked around and grabbed a medium sized rock, waiting for Logue to lead the way. He was glad for Logue to lead the way as the experienced mercenary skillfully tested the path ahead, guiding Alon through the traps and getting them both through the tunnel alive and unharmed.
