"NO-- don't!" Narine did her best to stop Clementine leaping off her withers to pursue the steel-shelled crab. In typical feline fashion, the cat failed to listen. He charged after the creature in a storm of rising fur, and Narine watched them go. Helpless. Finding a cat in this place would be like digging a needle out of a haystack-- if that crab, easily twice Clementine's size, did not simply devour him first. Narine's heart clenched at the thought. 

"Clem?" she called around the corner. Her own voice echoed back to her, the sole response. "Clementine! You get back here right now!" 

Nothing, for a moment. Then, a distant yowl and the rising chorus of pounding paws. Narine half expected something twice Clementine's side to come bursting out of the dark, for all the weight the cat put behind himself. It was only Clementine that emerged, short several tufts of tail fur.
