[DD1] water storage

Josie’s eyes widened as she stepped into the shallow water, the cavern opening up around her into a large rectangular underground room girded with arches, walls decorated with beautiful frescoes.

She was amazed - she had never seen such a place before, and was surprised to find it on this level of the dungeon. She waded forwards, along the left wall, admiring the depictions of the Coursers running between the pillars. After a while, it got her wondering - who made this place, and why? She didn’t recall hearing about any place like this when she was doing research on the surface. Clearly it was made to store water somehow, but where did the water come from? How was it transported down here, and how was it transported back out when it was needed?

Josie looked around and up at the ceiling, and quickly found what she was looking for - there were holes placed periodically in the ceiling, presumably where rainwater once came through, and perhaps where containers had once been lowered by those living above. How interesting!

But the “who” still evaded her. Perhaps ancient Coursers had built this, somehow? Probably with the help of some other kind of creature.

Josie pondered this dilemma as she proceeded.

prompt: You’ve found a corridor where the moss recedes and the Cavern walls become stone blocks, then a whole room of repeating archways with Courser frescoes dashing between them. Water rises over your hooves until you’re ankle deep. Does the discovery of a cistern surprise you? Have you heard the legends, or is this place’s function completely foreign to you?
