He could only stare in shock at what was presented before him. Beauty had followed what appeared to be thickening roots towards their core. What he found was a horrifying, but equally fascinating, sight. A giant pitcher plant settled quite happily in a large gap that had been made in the stone floor of the dungeon. Inside, when he dared to lean forwards to see, was a jumble of bones. Some equine, others obviously not. The ‘freshest’ of these bodies being that of another courser, which made his heart drop.

Beauty had to get it out- he had to check who it once was! But the stallion was also hyper aware that without help, such a maneuver would likely end with him stuck inside the plant as well. The walls of the thing were obviously too smooth to climb out, even if he didn’t have hooves. Moving away from the ledge that peered over the bloated thing, Beauty pulled a map from his travel pack. Taking a small pencil as well, he began to mark the approximate location. Once finished, he carefully put away the map- which he had been diligently making himself while traveling through the dungeon’s layers.

Beauty again peered inside the gaping maw of the pitcher, trying to get a good look at what remained of the Courser inside. It was far too large to be merrylegs, that was for certain. Daring to lean further in, he squinted some more, a lantern hanging from his mouth. Illuminating the carcass of a… dun courser. Not Ginger either, which was good. Slowly beginning to back up, his footing almost slipped, rocks collapsing under where his hooves had been moments before. Falling straight into the open maw with a soft ‘plunk’.

Snorting a bit, Beauty got to his hooves once more and began the road forwards- only to realize the roots were not clearing up, instead becoming a thicker mass. Until the passage opened up into a grand hall- the walls completely covered in foliage, and more importantly, other pitchers of various sizes.

He could only gulp while carefully navigating the space. The ground so thickly knotted with roots and vines, one wrong step would send him flying, as well as break his leg.

The air was thick, and clogged his lungs. And while he’d only been in the room for a minute at most, a thin layer of sweat and moisture already coated him. Panting while searching for an exit, Beauty saw it- distinct cut marks. Likely from other adventurers. He carefully followed the scars, as they got more numerous, alongside the cut ends of many plants. Which cleared a(somewhat) safe way forwards. Looking behind himself, Beauty was shocked to see that it appeared as if the plants had.. moved, and attempted to block him in. Though luckily it seemed the cut limbs were unable to do so. But it did mean one thing; if he wanted out, Beauty would have to find a different exit. Once he left the great hall, he gasped, as if breathing for the first time. He didn’t realize how.. oppressive the air was in there.

Body suddenly sore and tired, he nearly crumpled to the floor. Snorting while nibbling at his legs, as if to chase away the aching. Beauty wasn’t sure what had happened to make him so exhausted, but perhaps it had to do with the plants in that room. The way the air seemed to choke him. Pulling out his map again, he began to draw. Making a very important note on the map itself to NEVER go that way again.
