[MEDIUM] [4-1] Don't Drink the Ichor
From a ledge you can see a group of horses, unaware of eyes watching them from above. They seem to be confused by something; their torches close to the ground as they follow whatever they've found. One of the horses pauses, sensing a presence among them. Their eyes shoot up to the ledge above and you duck behind, maybe this was your sign to go.
Phantom was staring up above them as a shuffle could be heard, and Shadow gave him a gentle shove. “We need to focus on what's in front of us, not what's above” The grey nodded as he turned his attention back to the path ahead.
Desdemona and Daravna followed close behind, the echoes in the corridors putting them in an anxious state. The ichor below them made them uneasy as well; what was waiting for them at the source? Why was it down here anyway?
All of a sudden a gasp escaped their companion and Daravna made his way to stand beside Shadow. The heraldic's eyes widen at the sight, a fountain of sorts shooting out of the ground. As they continued to stare at the fountain, more and more details made themselves known. A horse skeleton sat beneath the ichor, bigger than one the group has ever seen. The liquid flowed out of the eye sockets and down the ribs, covering almost all the skeleton's legs.
Phantom made his way into the room first and felt a shiver run down his spine as he approached. It felt like there was something else in the room with them, almost like the skeleton was alive somehow. He didn’t quite know how, he wasn’t even sure if it was the creature he was feeling.
“Hey, you good over there Phantom?” Shadow questioned, stepping into the room with him. The black stallion noticed the skeleton a moment after and a curious look appeared on his face. “Woah, that skeleton is MASSIVE!”
“Don’t be so loud, you might wake it up.” Desdemona teased, letting out a small chuckle. Not a moment after it felt like the ground was shaking and the group had to take a step back. It went back to normal soon after and Shadow glared at the ether.
“Why would you even joke about that, now I don’t wanna be down here anymore.” He huffed looking at the mare.
“Cause it’s funny and now you’re terrified.” She stuck her tongue out at Shadow before hopping away as he came after her.
“I am NOT terrified, I’m just ready to go home now.” Phantom and Daravna shared a look and both sighed at the two. There was no way the skeleton was going to wake up, especially with this much ichor pooling out of it. Daravna dared to step even closer, climbing the makeshift steps in front of him. He had never seen a full skeleton this size, only the skull him and Shadow had seen in the previous dungeon.
As he climbed closer he realized that there was silver lining the bones, though it seemed painted on more than anything. Flakes of it were mixing with the ichor around them and disappearing almost instantly and it made Daravna curious. He lowered his head to get a closer look when all of a sudden a bubble formed and popped right in front of him.
He reared back, the liquid burning on his face. There was no way this was happening, no way. Phantom reached the heraldic before anything else happened, quickly offering him a rag to whip the goo off. He greatly obliged and let the grey wipe his face off.
Shadow and Desdemona had watched what happened from where they were perched below and sheepishly looked at each other. Maybe this wasn’t the place to mess around, and he was right to want to get out of here. Daravna shot them both a scowl as he made his way down the steps, Phantom right behind him.
“We’re sorry.”
