[DD2] Refusal to Engage
"We're not crossing that."
Haziness stated it as a fact, with no tension or force behind her words as she stared at Vexation, who was already beginning to step onto the horrifically poor bridge. The larger courser tilted his head in a mix of confusion and annoyance. "Of course we are. This is the path forwards, so we're going to go this way."
"Can we not just find another path? A safer one?" Hazi asked, already starting to walk away from the bridge. Vex didn't move from his spot, yelling out to her. "This is the only path! So many generations of dungeoneers have traversed this part of the dungeon, and it's the only path that they've found!" He seemed intent on keeping Hazi from searching out other options, and because of what? The fact that nobody was smart enough to try and find a path outside of the wooden bridge over a river of lava?
Hazi let out a sigh intense enough to shake her core. And to think that Vex was supposed to be the smart one- then again, compared to Mitigation and Madness he didn't have much competition. "Don't you think it's a little immature to assume that all possible avenues have already been searched, especially in a place such as this? I expected a courser like you to be at least a little less keen to follow a well-treaded path of fools."
That seemed to strike a nerve for Vex, stomping his hoof down and causing the bridge to shudder in response. "Ugh! I'll show you a path of fools!" He barked, swiftly beginning to cross the bridge. He was doing quite well, getting a decent way forwards... until one of the planks fell from under his hoof, sending his body down for a moment before he caught himself. And then the plank he caught himself on also fell, which lead to a terrified retreat back to solid ground.
Haziness smiled at Vex as he stepped off of the bridge. "I suppose you did show me. Good job." Vex didn't have the capacity to argue. He was already extremely embarrassed at having acted like such an impulsive child in front of the other courser. Especially since now his mind was a bit clearer, he could understand the points that she had made earlier. That bridge was a death trap, and trying to find another way forwards and failing would at least be better than falling into a river of lava.
Still, he wasn't going to admit he was wrong. All Hazi would get is an undignified pout on Vex's face as he followed her away from the bridge.
Thankfully, or perhaps unfortunately, that was all she needed in order to have a smug grin plastered on her face for the rest of the dive.
You’ve come upon one of the most famous bridges in the dungeon, long and swinging over a river of lava and seeming to be a mile long. It shows its wear and tear: missing planks and fraying cables make this bridge more treacherous than it once was. Can you make it across?
