Bro [DD4] Going Solo

While most on the surface might think the dungeons a lonely dank delve into vast echoing chambers and dead dusty depths, they were actually so very alive. The mushrooms had proved it, always something new, something fantastical around the next corner. While he still yearned for what he’d lost, for family, every day was satisfying in a way that was hard for the courser to describe. Adventure, adrenaline, intrigue.’

Now as he snaked through the winding hall, unsure and almost scared of where it could lead, that melody playing in his head, he thought of the few others he’d met traversing the stone mazes.

Bro had been friendly, of course, ecstatic even. He never knew exactly where he’d end up, or how to tell what direction he was even going to begin with, so to run into adventurers or even once a small camp where someone had settled down… well it was wonderful. He liked people, he did, and the memories of those few conversations were kept in a very special part of his heart.

“Brody’s the name, but everyone just calls me Bro. How about you?” He’d asked the one camped in the ruins before, a lanky fellow with legs like a foal.

“Eggbert, but everyone just calls me Egg.” The courser had laughed awkwardly back, enormous glasses and buck teeth almost a comical caricature of what a horse should be.

“Well Egg, I haven’t seen anyone in a year- what’re you doin’ here?” Another question, he never did have a mind for decorum.

“Living” Eggbert shrugged, “Just made some of my patented* power biscuits if you’d want to try one actually-” Excited, the courser dipped into a hole in the wall past a well worn tent. Not a second later he clopped back out, platter teetering with small home made biscuits, still warm, sliding about.

It’d been nice, the visit, but once he’d moved on… well he wasn’t sure he’d ever see Eggbert again. Or any of them, really. He didn’t mind so much though, it was nice on his own too, easier even, when he didn’t have to worry about anyone else getting hurt.

That was the thought running through his mind as he spotted a larger opening up ahead, wondering if he was finally coming to the end of the twisting hall, ears forward with anticipation. He could do this on his own, like he always had.

The odds of surviving the dungeon are greater in numbers. Every Courser has their role in a party: what’s yours? Or do you prefer to work alone without dividing your spoils?
