We followed Rhidd down a steep path. I was alert and ready to head forwards – we must be SO close now – but I noticed that both Cal and Petal’s heads were low and swaying with the effort to stay awake. If we didn’t find what I was looking for soon, we might have to take a rest down here. I refused to go back to the surface when we were so close. I was so caught up in my own thoughts that I hadn’t realised that Rhidd had stopped. I walked straight into him with a thump.

‘Sorry, sorry.’ I said as Cal shot me a bemused look.

I looked up to see why Rhidd has stopped.

‘Um.. Rhidd? This looks like a dead end.’

He turned and raised an eyebrow at me. ‘Yes, because everything in the dungeon is exactly what it seems.’

I rolled my eyes. I saw that before the sheer rock wall there were some tiles. They were beautifully engraved, with symbols on them which meant absolutely nothing to me, but hopefully meant something to Rhidd. I stepped up close to him and murmured so quietly that nobody else could here, ‘You sure this is the right way?’

Rhidd nodded. I backed away to let him figure out the puzzle. I lay on the floor to wait, and Cal and Petal both heaved a sigh of relief as they shunned their packs and lay down too.

I looked at Petal. ‘You think he’ll take long enough for us to have a rest?’

She shook her head. ‘Nah, I’ve never seen a puzzle stump him for more than ten minutes.’

I laughed and was about to tell them that they should at least eat something when I realised that Cal already had an apple halfway to his mouth. I smiled at him and he smiled back.

I closed my eyes to wait, and surely enough after a few minutes I heard Rhidd say ‘Ah-ha!!’ I lurched to my feet, and all but ran over to the wall as it began to slide up, hopefully revealing the room that held the reason for this entire journey…
