[DD2] Vent Blocker

Vex always wondered why dungeons came with traps. Were they present in the ancient times when the structures still had some use? And if so, why on earth would anyone think it's a good idea to put a fire trap in a tight hallway? He supposed it could be to guard treasure, but how would one even get the treasure into the dungeon without getting burned alive?

Truly, mysteries that he would never know the answer to. Thankfully, it wasn't exactly important. He could figure out a way forwards without having to worry about a historian's theories about the usage of the trap in ancient times.

The corridor had a set entrance and exit, with more open rooms on either side. If the smoke in the hallway got too aggressive, then exiting on either side would lead to relatively fresh air in comparison.

The solution was simple in Vex's mind, pulling out a thick piece of fabric from his bag, moistened with water in order to help him keep cool. He placed it down on the vent directly in front of him, blocking the airflow. With the oxygen not entering the vent, the flames couldn't manage the strength to burst up from the ground. If anything, smoke would leave the vent once the fabric was removed.

It ended up being a case of swift and practiced motions, moving across the hallway, over blocked vents before moving the fabric to the next vent in front of him. The quicker it was done, the less smoke he would have to deal with before he made it to the other side.

Of course, with the strange timing of the vents, some of them didn't even get the chance to flare up before Vex had walked over them. He had gotten quite lucky, the air in the corridor being clear enough to breathe the entire time as he moved through the hallway.

His fabric was warm and dirty with smoke now, but it was better than the alternative. Besides, he no doubt would have to do the same thing on the return trip, so he didn't mind too much.

Maybe he should keep the fabric specifically for this purpose... it wasn't like he wanted to put it on his body now... or, ever again.

As you enter a narrow corridor, your hoof lands on a loose cobble and triggers a trap. intermittent flames thrust up from the vents lining the floors. Courser be nimble – how do you make it to the other side?
