[DD1] I'm Watching You
Trixie quivered with fear. She could feel her skin crawling at the thought of venturing any further. The walls dripped, each splash causing her muscles to jump beneath her shiny cream coat. A bug scurried across the floor in front of her, skipping from one rock to another for protection. Her eyes widened with a hesitant step back. What had she got herself into?
Reluctantly, she knew she couldn't stay frozen in this spot forever. If she didn't find something to do, something would surely come and find her. Honestly, she didn't know what was worse. Trixie's mane stuck to her neck that was slick with sweat from the rising panic within. It would only get worse. Nervously, she stepped forward, every joint stiff. Her hoofsteps echoed around her on the stone floor; the quietness was insufferable. Her breathing was short, her chest tight. She'd never been so highly strung. Ears flickered, listening for any and every noise. Every tap, every shuffle, every silence that was just a little too silent.
A junction crept up on her, the walls shielding the turn until she was on top of it. The looming emptiness of the way forward spooked her (not that that was difficult) but onwards she must go. The sweat on her body had begun to lather. Despite the coolness in the air, she was red hot. Her nerves tingled and everything in her body was telling her to run. Flight or fight? Flight every time. There was no trusting what could be waiting for her down here in the dungeon.
Another turning, this one a little more obvious. Did that ease her mind? Not one bit. Suddenly, there was a low grumble. It was faint at first but with all her senses on high alert, it wasn't hard to miss. Was it possible to BE any more on edge? The grumbling came closer and closer. Trixie froze once more, shifting uncomfortably from hoof to hoof. Her head flicked left and right. The walls were closing in. Eyes were all around. Closer...closer...closer... She turned quickly, jumping 10 feet in the air at the sight in front of her. A large ball of slime stared at her. Literally stared at her with its one bulbous eye. It melted as it sat there, the globs of sticky mess absorbing back into its skin. It continuously grumbled. The sound was low. Deep. Inhuman. She was going to be sick.
After several minutes of staring at one another, the pile grew. It scooped up all its goo, towering over her now. It stared down at her menacingly. That was it. That was enough to make her break. She spun on her heel, kicking off into the fastest gallop she could muster. She blindly headed down the track. She had no idea where she was or where she was heading but anywhere was better than the thought of being utterly consumed by THAT!
A sentient pile of slime approaches you. It blinks its single eye up at you, unsettling but not immediately threatening. How do you respond?
