[DD1] Galatea

Bare hooves make little noise on well-packed ground.  Suren's ears are pricked for danger though the rest of him is loose and relaxed.  Curiosity presses him farther in, toward the iron scent of metal and dust.  Nostrils flare against the urge to sneeze as he nears abandoned remnants of the past.  His eyes take a moment to adjust to the increased dark of a closed space.  Large empty bowl over what must have once been a fire.  Splays of fabric laid out in a circle, untouched.  The bowl smells of rot and mold.  Nearby, scattered armor looks hastily left behind.  Had whoever was once here fled from something?  It's a dead end, there was nowhere else to go.

The courser has to pick his way through, choosing each step with care.  What wouldn't make noise if he hit it looks as if it could disintegrate if looked at too long.  Suren curls his lip back in an attempt to drive stale air from his nose.  It's still better than running into something that wanted to eat him, even if the ancient scene makes muscles around their eyes tense.

Their eyes swivel with nervousness.  Suren snorts, flicking an ear.  They impulsively paw at one of the sheets.  Fresh dirt coats gray hoof and rises into the air.  His head jerks and he sputters a half resisted sneeze.  "Fine," they grumble like dust personally offended them.  For a long moment, he stills, ears on a pivot in case the sound drew any unwanted visitors to his location.

Safe-for now.

Shaking out his entire coat from head to tail, he keeps moving away from the camp.  Across from the courser lies a rocky wall that draws his attention.  Carved into the stone in ragged lines is an unfamiliar word.  "Gal...atea?"  They sound out the letters hesitantly.  Eyes narrow in confusion.  It means nothing to him, but it must have meant something to those who once resided here.  Important enough to mark it for anyone to find, for eternity.  "Galatea," Suren repeats to engrave it in his memory.  Maybe there was a courser above the dungeon he could ask who knew more.  Yet he could do that later.  There was still time to explore more before he turned back.

You find yourself in an odd corner of the caverns with what look like the remains of an old camp. Besides the iron cookery and dust-filled humanoid armor, you feel that if you touched any of it, it might buckle under the weight of time. Carved into the stone is a strange word: GALATEA. What do you make of this?
