[DD1] DD1.3 Honey Bread - Let Sleeping Golems Lie

You are climbing up a rocky incline when the ledge begins to shake, rolling under your hooves like joints being stretched. You have in fact stepped on several moss-covered golems. They don’t seem to mean you any harm, but you have awakened them from a restful slumber, and your way forward is above their shoulders. What do you say to these stone giants?

***

Hippity

Hoppity

Honey Bread hops from one stone to another with a song, followed suit by her green drake companion flying and gliding. Trailing behind her slightly struggling up the incline was the madder beauty herself, Rosemary, carrying two bags of materials. The two have just finished collecting materials for Rosemary’s research and are making their way back to the surface when suddenly, the rocks beneath their hooves begin to shake and rumble.

The two coursers try to steady their footing by they could feel the stones beneath feel as though they’re joints being stretched. Limbs behind to form on each one of the moss-covered stones.

“What in the seven hells?!” Rosemary exclaimed loudly.

Honey Bread balanced themselves on top of one of the golems, swaying left and right as they attempted to regain footing once more.

“By jeeves!” they said surprisingly, “Rosie, these are rock golems!”

The creatures begin to blink and move around in a hoard. They move like waves and bring along the coursers to follow the motion.

Trying to stabilise her footing, Rosemary noticed an important detail about the golems.

“Uh… Honey? These golems are-”

“-bringing us back deeper! Good googly moogly!”

Honey Bread whistled for their drake, “Cheese Sticks! We need to get them to bring us back up!”

The pygmy drake gave them a silly salute and flew past the horses straight to the front of the waves. It waved its little arms at the golems, yapping and blabbering in dragon-speak but the golems would not stop. They continue their motion deeper into the dungeon, pushing past the winged drake.

“Don’t think it’s working, Honey!” Rosemary shouted.

Honey Bread frowned. “Oh bother, I did not want to do this…” they rummaged through their satchel and picked up a bone. “Cheese Sticks! I need you to burn this for me!”

She tossed the bone over to Cheese Sticks who began burning the bone, turning it to dust that it collected in its little drake hands. Honey Bread then turned to Rosemary, “Give me the sleeping herb!”

Rosemary nodded and, with an attempt to walk through the top of a moving golem train, handed over the herb to Honey Bread.

The blue puck grabbed the herb with her teeth and with a nod to Cheese Stick, the drake flew over the golems and sprinkled the bone dust across them all as much as it could.

“Cover up yer mouth and nose!” she told Rosemary.

The madder beauty rummaged through her own satchel to find a sash of violet that she had found from her dive. She promptly wrapped it around her face as Honey Bread began her incantation.

The golem’s head beneath their hooves began to glow with every word of the incantation, the wind around Honey Bread swirling with arcane wild magic. As she ended her incantation, mist began to swirl from beneath the golems and all around them.

One by one, the golem slowed their march deeper into the dungeon until it came to a halt. From where Honey stood all the way to the ends of the golem train, each golem fell asleep, knocking over one another as they laid back into their long slumber.

Honey Bread and Rosemary managed to get off the golem and back to the dungeon floors.

“Quick thinking, Honey Bread,” praised Rosemary.

The blue puck grinned her cheeky grin, “Why, a compliment from the Rosemary herself! What an honour!”

Honey Bread lets out a big yawn, “Now let’s get out of here before I start falling asleep myself.”
