[DD2] Feeding the Flame

Out of all the coursers in the dungeons, why did the cloaked beast have to approach Madness?

Not only did the large courser have to stop himself from immediately attacking the flaming figure, but he had to try and figure out what it was doing mere seconds later.

If he had misinterpreted the movement of its arms, he would have attacked. Thankfully the fact that the motion was underhanded and with open palms was enough for Madness' brain to recognize it as a passive motion.

Madness' ears did pin back at the sight of the blisters on the hands, though. He always imagined that beasts of the flame were immune to the fire's effects. Of course, Madness was simply disgusted by the sight, not having the intellect to consider how such a thing could live in flame when their body obviously still reacted to it.

He looked at the cloaked figure and watched as they lightly lifted their cupped hands. Begging for... something, it seemed. The cloak obscured any face that they could have, but Madness could only imagine it looking at him with some sort of pathetic expression. Though, if the creature's hands were anything to go by, Madness would pass on getting a look at any other skin that might reside under the cloak.

Madness wouldn't leave the creature standing there- he had to give it something... but could something like this even carry around half the things he had in his bag?

The plants that he saved from the upper floors would just explode into ash if they touched the fire, and the monster bits would probably either melt or burn until they were nothing more than charcoal. There were some small metal items that he found every now and again, be they keys or various broken locks... but those would probably just melt, now that he thought about it.

He ended up rummaging in his bag for an extended period of time trying to find something that he thought would work. Just as he went over one of the objects, he heard a small firey hiss from the creature above him- but it wasn't aggressive. Madness decided to interpret it as the cloaked figure asking him to pull out whatever he had just passed by.

Madness came up with a small plant, dried out from the heat of the dungeon but still in good shape. He forgot where he had found it originally, but it had to be closer to the surface considering that it was more stick-like as opposed to the lush ferns deeper in the cavern.

Carefully, Madness dropped the plant into the cloaked figure's hands, watching as it quickly pulled the plant into its cloak. Madness expected to hear the sound of the plant bursting into flames... but it was completely silent.

With a small nod, the figure turned away and began to walk off. Madness tilted his head slightly, confused by the whole experience. He supposed he should be happy that he didn't have to fight, but what did that figure need that plant for?

Oh well, better to forget about it than to worry about it all night.

A cloaked figure engulfed in flame appears before you, its face indistinguishable under its smoldering hood. It holds out blistered hands as if asking you for something. Do you oblige it?
