Crampled walls

The party stood breathless in the dim lit chamber, the torches were flickering against the damp stone walls. The door they had entered from had slammed shut after Flake had stepped on a trap rock, sealing them inside.

Before they had time to process their situation, they heard a click and a low rumble began to echo through the room, followed by an ominous grinding of stone against stone. The walls, lined with ancient carvings and runes, had started to close on them.

“We need to move. NOW!”

Dacite shouted, her voice filled with urgency as she started desperately searching for an exit. The walls were moving slowly but steadily, the grinding noise growing louder with each passing second.

Flake's mind raced, he had read about this kind of traps before, in many books - clever mechanisms built by the ancient architects to ward off intruders. His eyes traced the runes on the walls recognizing them as part of an old, forgotten language. “There has to be a release mechanism, some way to stop this!” they called out, their voice strained with focus.

“What are you talking about, nerd?”

Darling shaked his head in disbelief, as he preferred to follow who was darting from wall to wall, eyes scanning every nook and cranny with practiced precision. Her nose touched over the seams in the stone, testing for any hidden switches or levers. "There’s something here," she muttered, "but I can’t—”

A sudden crash from the wall snapped everyone’s attention. The grinding sound quickened, and the walls began to close in faster. Darling cursed under his breath, trying to force open the door with brute strength, but it wouldn’t budge. He spun around, wide-eyed but still composed.

“Cass, what’s the plan?”

Cass furrowed his brow as his eyes locked onto Flake's, the older stallion seemed to think for a moment, before nodding.

“Follow their instructions!”

Flake, moving faster than the eye could follow, scrambled up the side of the wall, reaching for a rune.

“Quick, the blue ones, you have to press those!”

The walls were almost within leg’s reach now, the pressure in the room suffocating. In perfect coordination, the four of them pressed the symbols.

Another click, and then the walls stopped.

A door opened, and the whole party quickly darted to the exit.
