[DD1] Do you remember what it means to be a Foal again?
Aquilo gazes over the glittering clear and taut exterior of the pool, a consistent drip pouring from the ceiling and disturbing the surface with its tiny droplets. He hums with consideration, head tilting side to side, wispy strands of wavy silvery-blue mane flutters in the wake of his head. Pale silver eyes flash in his skull as he watches the small squirming invertebrates swim at the deepest end, they appeared harmless in designation. No claws, no hooks, fangs, or envemoned fins or quills; they were only blips of flesh that swam without a single thought roaming their heads.
"Peregrine, do you think it is safe enough to enter? I am quite dusty from the road." He inquires of his companion, the other Courser tasked with his protection and guidance in the off hoof that he may need it. Aquilo oft seems in need of his advice in the world beyond the walls of the Dukedom, sheltered as one would from spending a foal hood in the boundaries of royalty.
Peregrine steps forward, his dark coat simmering beautifully in the glow of the pond with hints of silver and flakes of watery aura. Eyes that have been harden and honed by his rough beginning, the unbending nature of the streets for one such as him, a orphan; he peers deep and long. His own consideration louder and seen in the flinty expression, wide hoof skirting the edge and dipping into the waters.
"Youn-" He clears his throat, dark rumble used to the title that was expected of him to use for Aquilo, and starts again. Aquilo did not begrudge the slip, even after the knowledge that he had expected years of skipping from lessons to tumble in the training yards with their own names spewing from loose tongues would make it easy to switch; the elders were always much stricter with the common Courser and have oft taken measures to make sure he would remember his place below the Heir Apparent... Not that he would treat the other in such as way.
"It is safe enough." Came the gruff reply, the shaggy mane of Peregrine tosses aside as if to toss his brief discomfort and embarrassment to the corners of the cavern.
Aquilo smiled sweetly and reached over to help the other divest himself of their saddlebags, this was his way to show forgiveness for something that needed none in the first place; he would treat him as any other. Well, as his friend and confidant of many many years.
"Thank you." His words muffled around a metal buckle, snout pressed up against velvet and leather.
Peregrine flinches briefly before he bucked playfully underneath the pull of Aquilo's teeth, a mischievous smirk pulling at his lips as he falls back into a time-worn demeanor of two foals playing where they should not. Aquilo gasps with faux affront and snaps his teeth at the other's shoulder, chasing after him with full intent of biting into his meaty flesh.
Soon the two of them found each other rushing into the depths of the calm pond, splashing and playing to their hearts content with sodden manes and glittering eyes. The wonder and awe of a safety zone filling their bodies with foalish energy.
"The moisture on the cave walls has gathered in the center of this chamber, forming a pool. Harmless, colorful invertebrates wave at you from the bottom. Ah... A peaceful respite. You can check your equipment and gather your thoughts here."
