[DD1] tiny treasures
Kendall trotted merrily along the mossy pathway. He was on his very first dungeon delve, and so far it was going along swimmingly. His tail swished confidently, and he was thinking about how soon he’d get to venture into the Earthen Furnace when all of the sudden a light in his eyes briefly blinded him.
He blinked rapidly, shaking his head, and looked around to see if he could find the source of the strange light.
Aha - the light of his lantern was catching on something glittering. He went over to inspect what it was.
Two horned beetles, their carapaces encrusted with gemstones, were doing battle. Kendall was immediately spellbound by the sight. He crouched down to watch as the two small creatures struggled to flip each other over, and their jeweled chitin twinkled in the light from his lantern. What a show! He didn’t want to take his eyes off it.
At last, one of the beetles lifted the other high above its head, and then tossed it back down onto its back, having successfully flipped its opponent over. Kendall had to resist the urge to cheer aloud at the spectacle.
Well, it was probably time to move along now, he figured, although he found he was reluctant to leave the bugs behind. Maybe…
Carefully, Kendall picked up one of the beetles in his teeth and dropped it into one of his bags. There, now he had one to keep! Alright, time to go.
Kendall trotted forwards a ways, stopped, thought a moment, and then came back and pocketed the second beetle too.
prompt: Among discarded Courser barding, a glint catches your eye. Horned beetles with gemstones fused to their chitin armor clash against one another in combat. They are small enough to pocket – or eat as a crunchy snack, if you’re so inclined…
