The dungeon, it had become increasingly dark.
In light, contrast of the abyss and ground was stark,
But here in the darkness, one must match where they move.
Valentin, intellectual, wished to improve.
Knowledge was power or at least it was to them.
....They did not know that fate would cause light to condemn,
That they would need exist where no sunlight could reach.
Valentin did search for what the dungeon could teach;

In the dark though, they could not see a thing at all,
And so they fell. Their bones broke, they let out a call:
"Someone, please help me!" They desperately did cry,
But their voice was weak, and they were certain to die.

Before they would pass, they heard an enthralling voice,
"I can help you, my dear, if you think on this choice;
Become undead, and you will live only in dark
And you will live but still die, and death leaves a mark."
Valentin thought, 'This was a hallucination'.
But they still did wish for this dream of salvation.
"Please," they weakly managed to give their permission.
Sudden sharp teeth closed on their neck for transition.

When they next woke, they were on the ground, fully healed.
Upon inspection, their own sharp teeth were revealed.
They glanced around, and though it should be dark they see
And they realize it had been reality.

"...Did I truly die?" They quietly so inquired.
"Yes, for a vampire's transition, it is required,"
Responded the being whose voice was enthralling.
"What was the purpose for which did end up falling?"
The heraldic inquired of them, wishing to know.
"...I wished for knowledge, for only then can I grow
In power, in spirit, in anything at all,"
Their voice sounded even to themself very small.

He did smile, "You can still get what you so did yearn,
If you let me teach, you will quite certainly learn."
There was a promise in the one's devilish voice.
And never did Valentin regret their then choice.
