[DD1] Dungeon Charting and a Shield

Kestrel huffs underneath her breath, the Instructor prattling on and on at the head of the amphitheater with his short cropped mane waggling slightly atop his large neck with each gesture. It was the quarterly safety training meeting that all of the Dungeon Charters had to take in order to continue on with their task, well more so it was an update for the new and old markers left in the paths all across their sections of the Buried Kingdom Dungeons... or as she likes to refer to it as, the Underneath.

One of the deciding factors that allowed her to travel the Underneath by her lonesome or on the rare occasion was one of the forms they filled out before they left the training stages, their mentoring partner signing it off as they made clearance. Said form specified their strengths, weaknesses, desired sectors, roles, and the desire for a delving party or not.

The bay had found in her weeks and months as the nearly silent companion of a Chloric mentor... she rathered traveling the darkness and caverns without a looming and noisy presence driving away the skitish and drawing the bold. Never mind that she was classified as a Shield, a Courser with enough power and resistance to particular concerns like creature damage or enviromental weathers that it is less likely to concern them, effect their performance, or at least they were able to take more than the adverage Courser. She hadn't exactly quoted herself as a Shield, rather likening herself to a Trotter or Ranger.

Trotter, being a Courser whom is light on their feet, able to traverse long distances with either consistent speed or quicker than normal with strong mental vaults. They tended to be also known as Couriers or Messengers, often carrying goods, scrolls, and other goods from the surface to the depths.

Rangers, were considered the backbone and most commonly known role of the Dungeon Charters, hence the name. Often retired Delvers found themselves in this position, the tasks and duties were vast and required an experienced and well rounded Courser. Other name they are referred to as are Guides or Charters.

But, nay, she was a Shield. A Shield that was attempting to test into Ranger status, but it would take quite a few more years of actual delving and campaigns before she would even be considered. Not that it stopped her solo Charting. Blasted Elders.

"The odds of surviving the dungeon are greater in numbers. Every Courser has their role in a party: what's yours? Or do you prefer to work alone without dividing your spoils?"
