Fetch had been staring out at the lava field for quite some time now, and Jester was beginning to feel uneasy. Twice she'd attempted to step out onto the lava, and twice she'd been sent to 'rest' while the other courser stared out into the vast cavern. Jester wasn't sure what Fetch thought they were seeing, she couldn't see anything herself. But there was a current of urgency that stopped Jester every time she moved to step around the other courser, something screaming to listen. Jester knew Fetch had a strange connection to the dungeon, she did as well but it was nothing like what Fetch had. They just.. knew things and did things. Seemingly impossible things, knowledge that seemed beyond them. Kinda spooky, kinda cool. Mildly annoying in situations like this where waiting felt like torture.

It was some time before the rumbling began, and at first Jester didn't even notice it. It wasn't long before she was on her hooves, moving to Fetch's side. They remained fixed on the center of the room, and then she finally saw it. The crust literally burst, giving way to a strange serpentine shape. It was coiling around and around, disturbing the surprisingly thin lava field as it cruised through the chamber. Heat flooded into the room as the lava was disturbed, making the furance more unbearable than it already was. The body of the serpent seemed to be made of magma itself, the sections between its 'plates' weeping heavily with molten rock. Thankfully, they were on land some distance away - thanks to Fetch's dungeon vibes or something - and very safe.

They must have watched it for a long time, but it never raised its head above the lava and eventually simply descended into the pools and never surfaced again. Jester turned to Fetch, who was watching her with thinly veiled amusement. "What was that?"

"What was that?"

Jester wasn't sure why she bothered.
