[DD1] all roads lead somewhere

Was it that way with the low-hanging vines that seemed to try and hide something behind their shadows? Or was it this way with the mushroom clustered path with glow-emanating spores? Or... was it the path behind him constricted with roots? His sorrel audits flicked about his head and his chocolate gaze flicked from passage to passage. A frown tugged at his duo-hued lips as his gaze seemed to wander the dungeon and find no answer. He hadn't to admit it, but he was lost.

Peanut was batting about a rogue mushroom cap on the floor, completely and utterly useless, and for a moment Spuds wondered why he hadn't brought Astera with him. They had a partnership that worked well despite their stark contrasts. Their first dungeon dives had been successful and bountiful between the two of them. Most of all, it provided them with experience neither had previously had. Discussion and vocal lessons about dungeons only did so much. Practice, he told himself, was how he'd get better at it. If at first you don't succeed, try again, and again, and eventually you'll cross that shallow river that didn't even rise above your hoof to wet your coronet and realize you were being foolish.

Spuds blinked, squinting at the oddly specific memory - or thought? - that had burrowed into his brain. Never the matter... he needed to figure out how to get back on track. They'd only just gotten down here, after all. Visually a light bulb illuminated in his brain as his brows peaked and his eyes brightened. Spuds curved about to dig into his various saddlebags, dropping random bits and bobs like rations or leather straps. Ah! Here it was! He'd heard of others using treasure maps to help themselves orient themselves deep in the depths. They were meant to lead you in but maybe he could find where he was and locate the way back out.

Unfortunately, pouring over the parchment, a sinking dread crept into the tobiano's chest.

He had no idea how to read a map.

The frown on his lips drew deeper and he glanced to Peanut, who trilled and batted at her improvised toy. Alright... well. Map didn't help him at all. He couldn't hear other Coursers, at least not here, but surely someone else was down here, right? And, by those odds, at some point, he would run into another party or individual. Nodding his head to himself, he murmured that it was most likely the best course of action, and managed to remember to pick up the things that had fallen from his pack. With a shake of his neck, he straightened himself and picked the path of least resistance - the one filled with fungi. At least Peanut seemed perfectly fine playing with one, so what harm could they do? Plus, with the open tunnel, it'd be easier to find someone to ask for directions.

Though the dungeons are well-trodden in the Age of Coursers, they are too vast to avoid getting lost occasionally. How is your sense of direction? What do you do when you realize you don’t know where you are?
