Kestrel stares into the dark chamber in front of her, the path that she had traveling had been dropping into gradual darkness for some time now and while her eyes had adapted to it quite well... Perks of growing up and living within the depths of the Buried Kingdom... but where there was no light at all, there was nothing to adapt to, not with being a Courser like herself. If she were another creature such a bat, blind as they are normally, then she would not be wary of it.

She had been tempted to purchase one of the Wisps from the Wizard for many cycles now, even with their hefty price tag, the marker crystals and their inherited glow could only help so much for the truly overwhelming dark spaces such as these. The only thing that had stopped her was the constant need for more and more funds, she made their lives comfortable for what she did make, but loosing that much to the Wizard would leave their dinner table barren for a few fortnights too long.

Maybe if she got a windfall of coins and precious goods, she could. Not that any of that mattered in this moment.

Pacing the edge of dim surface light and the dark, the edge to an abyss one would say, she scuffs a pebble over the line. She needed to make sure it wasnt just a drop off into another level or the maw of a beast. The Courser had enough of dank emptiness and snapping creatures for a life time.

The pebble rolls nice and easy through the line and across the other side, it was just a hallway that lacked the light of the surface. She huffs in relief and grabs crystals from her pack, a few strung with sturdy string and wire to mimic jewelry. It should keep her mouth and hooves free to continue forward.

Continue on, she did. Into the Dark. Ever plodding on for the safety of her peoples.
