“What made you give up surface life?” Tuesday asked Logue as they stepped along a stone path high above a lake of magma. She was trying to break the awkward silence that had fallen upon them shortly after they’d begun their delve - or at least, she felt it was awkward. Logue seemed perfectly relaxed, sensing that Tuesday was not the type to speak much.

He shrugged, looking out at the cavern surrounding them. 

“It just wasn’t for me, I guess. Made me restless.” He shook out his mane and smiled at her. “Same stuff every day, you know? But not down here.”

Tuesday nodded, although they couldn’t say they felt the same way. 

“What about you, miss?” Logue turned the question back at her, and she glanced away,

hesitant to answer. 

“I… think I’m still figuring that part out.” They admitted. Logue nodded.

“That’s okay. You’re only just starting out, right?”

“...Yes, that’s right.” 

“Everyone’s got their own reasons to be here.” He smiled. “At the end of the day it’s always good to hear new hooves tapping around in the dungeon, no matter the reason. It gives us all purpose.”

“I suppose that’s true.” Tuesday said thoughtfully. Now that he had asked the question, she couldn’t stop thinking about it. Why was she down here? She knew that she wanted to be here, that was for sure, but she couldn’t articulate the why. 

“You’ll figure it out eventually.” Logue reassured her. “Even if you don’t, there’s no shame in that.”

Tuesday nodded, feeling a little better. He was probably right - maybe coursers didn’t need a reason to want to be in the dungeon. Maybe it was a call they all heard. What a curious notion. It seemed to light up a part of her brain. 

“I think I want to find out why we’re all here,” She said abruptly. “Why coursers feel the call of the dungeon.”

Logue smiled at them.

“That’s a good reason.” He swished his tail. “You figured it out already!” 

Tuesday finally smiled back. 

“Yes, I did.”
