[DD1] Odd Depictions {Sybil}
- This part of the cave looks older than the rest. In rustic dye, you encounter a crude depiction of Coursers unlike any you’ve ever seen before, their oddly-proportioned bodies running in a herd along the wall. Who could have made this? How does it make you feel?
"Tarot... My name is Tarot.", the words echoed in Sybil's thoughts. The mystery Courser had given his name. Sybil noticed he seemed to soften when she was around. She could see the concern he carried for her, as well as hear it in every word that his voice spoke. The pair stayed silent as they continued on in their Dungeon excursion, only breaking the silence for Sybil to share her name. Tarot nodded and pressed forward.
Sybil stayed close to his hip, looking around the Dungeon. Tarot would consider her a touch oblivious and very easily side tracked, she had little situational awareness. She was too busy looking at the glowing fungi, listening to the bats screeching, and overhearing the conversation from other Coursers on their travels to pay close attention to the potential dangers lurking around each corner.
Tarot turned a path, calling out to Sybil to follow him. She happily obliged and continued her observance of the Dungeon's fascinating life forms. They walked a short ways before Tarot stopped. Sybil bumped into him, and gave him a questioning look.
"Stay RIGHT here. I'm going to peek into this chamber and make sure it's safe.", Tarot told her. Sybil nodded, and waited for him to return. While she waited, she nosed around some of the fungi, entranced by their vibrant, glowing colors. She heard foot steps, and turned her head back to the entrance that swallowed Tarot. She saw him poke his head out, and motion for her to come with him. Sybil turned and followed.
As she entered the chamber, her eyes lit up. Across the cave walls were these strange depictions. She moved to inspect them closer.
"Tarot. These look like us. Like Coursers.", she said with a hint of confusion in her voice. "Who made these? What is this supposed to be?", she questioned.
"You're right Sybil. They do look like us, because they are us. Well. Not us specifically, but you get what I'm saying. They are Coursers.", Tarot replied.
"Well, what is it supposed to represent? I've never seen anything like this before."
"I don't know what it's supposed to represent. I guess our ancestors. There's a lot of weird shit in this Dungeon, I'm sure we weren't the first to find it. Maybe someone long before knew Coursers were here. Maybe we had a different purpose at some point in time.", he replied to her.
"Sure we did. What that purpose was though, I haven't the slightest idea. I'm not sure how I feel about it. This could mean something very important, and we don't have the first idea as to what it's supposed to be. You've been down here a lot, have you ever seen anything like this before?"
"Yeah, a time or two, but I never paid it much mind. I had always figured if it's supposed to be something important, then the elder Coursers or the history studiers would have figured it out and said something. This really seems to bother you, are you okay?", he spoke with care.
"I... I'm okay. I'm just confused. There's something to this, I just know there is. I wonder how many other Coursers have seen this or something similar to it.", she replied.
"I'm sure other Coursers have seen it or something of its likeness. The elders will probably know more about it than anyone. You should ask them."
"Actually Tarot, I have a friend who studies the Courser histories. They may would know something about this. I'll ask them when I get back to the surface.", she spoke confidently in response to Tarot.
"Speaking of, we should probably get out of here soon. We've been down here for quite some time."
Sybil nodded, and the pair exited the chamber. Sybil followed Tarot back to the surface, accumulating questions to ask her historian friend. As they emerged from the Dungeon, Sybil called out, "Tarot!" He turned to face her, a questioning look on his face.
"Yes, Sybil?", he asked.
"Would you want to go with me to visit my friend? Maybe you'd like to learn about it too?", she asked a bit hesitantly.
Tarot thought for a moment, looking at Sybil and the way the Surface's sun shone on her bright yellow coat. "Sure Syb. I'll follow you this time".
Sybil nodded, and motioned for Tarot to come with her, and together they made their way to the historian's home.
