Terrence and Bastion trotted along an open bridge, the stone bricks underneath their hooves warm to the touch. The two walked in companionable silence, though Bastion nervously eyed the layer of lava sluggishly lapping at the sides of the bridge. One wrong step could easily result in major injuries, perhaps even being fatal if things went wrong enough.

"Wait," Terrence said, flicking his tail to signal to Bastion to stop. "I hear hissing."

Indeed, the lava next to them popped and hissed, embers leaping up from the lava. A shadow started to emerge from the lava, quickly taking the form of an indistinct figure, cloaked with flame. Its face was obscured but the vague outline of eyes could be seen, piercing through the bright fire.

It reached out a hand, coated in a layer of blisters, expectantly.

"Oh!" Terrence said, perking up at the stranger. "I know this one! We're supposed to give it a family crest. Its the Census you see, and it wants to know who is going through the dungeon."

"Ah!" Bastion whinnied and trotted closer. "Well, no better crest than a noble family such as mine!"

"Absolutely not! My family is famous throughout the lands and known by every Courser. Only mine is suitable!"

"Excuse you!"

The figure slowly sunk down into the lava, slamming its head face down into the liquid fire as the two Coursers bickered over which crest to give it.
