Eldregn and Mantis
‘Twas a day in the dungeon, one calmer than most.
Gizmo was trying to change that with his utmost,
For the little cat, he had suddenly darted,
And Eldregn followed him into paths uncharted…
That cat named Gizmo, he led quite a speedy chase!
Without time to dwell on the scenes, she had to race!
If she had time to look, quite a sight she would see
This cave was covered in the most wild greenery;
As if nature had taken over this whole place,
There was a plant growing in each and every space;
Vines, moss, trees, and flowers, each prettier than last.
'Twas all simply a blur as Eldregn ran on past.
At last, the quick cat stopped, Eldregn sped to a halt,
Just avoiding an accidental somersault!
It was a giant moth that Gizmo had spotted,
Resting upon the shoulder of a horse, dotted;
It was a heraldic, a pastel blue champagne,
The moth, their pet, it did crawl up on top their mane.
The moth was unimpressed, but her owner was mild,
They looked at the cat, then at the horse, and they smiled.
“I believe this cat is yours, Eldregn?” they inquired,
Somehow spoke her name, no introductions required.
"I am Mantis," the horse did politely add on.
Eldregn found herself into conversation drawn.
“How do you know my name?” she asked Mantis out loud
"With magic I Know what the dungeon does allow,"
Mantis did reply without a hesitation,
"I Know many, most react with condemnation."
“But I think we could be friends, if you're so inclined…
From what I Know of you, you seem to be quite kind.”
Patiently, Mantis waited with that same gentle smile.
They knew that at least, she would not ever be vile.
And she did not revile, instead she spoke words kind,
Curious but always checking if they did mind.
Each question she asked Mantis, the two grew more close,
As Mantis assured her she never did impose.
In time, they part, not strangers but with a new friend,
Though the poem stops here, the story does not end;
Indeed, soon enough, they will one day meet again,
Both are looking forward to that reunion then.
