[DD1] More Creepy Crawlies
Blackbird had just broken loose of the disgusting, wriggling, tentacled creature, and had calmed down enough to continue her exploration of the dungeon. She hadn't found any long abandoned libraries or chests of books or scrolls, but she was still thrilled with her new discoveries. An entire new avenue of study was open to her! Dungeon botany.
She did her best to focus on her surroundings, and not put too much of her focus on contemplating the best way to study all the new plants she had seen, but it was hard. The thrill of learning, and the pull to review what she'd learned so far was strong. As she walked further, the plants seemed to get more and more scarce. Also like she was leaving a biome, and heading into another. Blackbird scented the air. It was less humid here. It had a strange mineral-y undertone. She wondered what was causing that.
Ahead, she could make out a great chasm. As she approached it became apparent how deep it was. The crack in the floor vanished into darkness below. If she strained she could hear rushing water. Perhaps an underground river that had spent thousands of years carving itself lower and lower? It had to have been here for eons, as nearby there was a bridge.
Such structures were always ancient. She approached the bridge happily. It was simply chance that is was so close at hand. A sign of good luck. Only a few hoof falls onto the bridge her opinion drastically changed. This wasn't a bridge at all! Myriad legs waves in the air, and the 'structure' began to buck and weave. Blackbird was standing on a giant millipede, and the creature was not please.
Blackbird wasn't particularly pleased either. Besides not wanting to be pitched to her doom in the chasm, she wasn't particularly fond of standing on creepy crawlies of any size. She took a deep breath and started to run. The beast's front end seemed to be firmly attached to the far side of the chasm still, but the tail end on her side was now airborne. She knew she only had a matter of seconds the scramble across.
Keeping her feet on the writing ground was incredibly challenging, but she just managed it. She leapt the last few feet, soaring through the air and clattering to the ground on the far side. The millipede regarded her hatefully, and think skittered into the chasm. Blackbird breathed hard. Maybe someone else could study the giant millipedes. She personally never wanted to meet one again.
A deep crack in the cave floor poses an obstacle. A convenient bridge seems to be laid out before you, but when you step on it to cross, it begins to move underneath your hooves! Thousands of legs undulate on either side of a gigantic millipede that you have disturbed. Can you ride this bronco to the other side?
