[DD1] Research Twice, Do Once

Blackbird had spent the last week packing for her expedition. Or adventure. Or whatever it was going to be. She'd scrimped and saved coins from various odd jobs she'd been working at in order to buy a good quality pack for herself, and plenty of rations. The Courser had heard tales from others who'd been lost below for weeks, forced to eat strange plants that grew without the sun. She had no interest in having to resort to such measures. She had also bought torches. Lots and lots of torches. She'd spent days researching who made the longest burning ones, and who made torches that would work well in damp conditions. She firmly lived by the mantra that being unprepared was being prepared to fail. And Blackbird brooked no failures.

The woad Courser didn't have a large list of achievements of her own yet, but she was determined not to besmirch her name with silly failures because she rushed into things. Research twice, do once. It had proved a good strategy for her so far. She'd also spent many evenings talking to adventurers who'd come back successful, so she had an idea what the Overgrown Caverns could be like. She knew that she couldn't anticipate everything, but she was armed with as much knowledge as was possible. Now, with her bags packed and torches prepared, it was time to descend. Onward to knowledge, and perhaps loot to fun the purchase of more books, and thus more knowledge. And maybe a few accolade to attach to her name.

Safety may be an illusion, but it is one a Courser must maintain to live the life of an adventurer. What do you do (or bring along) to help bolster your spirits and make you feel protected?
