Mantis the Knowing (Becoming)

Mantis was once an ordinary pastel foal,

They were created the cherished kin of the Wild,

The one known as Bairaz. Mantis had a bright soul,

Prancing among the green, they were simply a child.

Bairaz was relieved that his curse had not passed on,

By him, Bairaz, Mantis was cherished, beloved.

But not all good could last... The abyss it did yawn,

Mantis was drawn to it, Bairaz's child dearly loved.

The void it called, into it the young foal did leap.

Nothing could be seen inside, when Bairaz did look,

Bairaz, now heart-broken, watched for days without sleep,

And he had for death, the transformation mistook.

A year, it passed by, and Bairaz did there still stay,

Greenery had overtaken the cavern room,

Intent to always mourn his child in his own way.

But this dark abyss, it turned out, was not a tomb!

One day Bairaz awoke, and thought it illusion,

His child was there, an odd knowing look on their face,

"You waited," they said. He knew it was no delusion,

Because his child's voice was there, by some lucky grace.

He told, "I would wait for you for eternity."

Bairaz spoke those loving words to them as a vow,

That was just simply how he viewed paternity.

Mantis, briefly distant, and then their head did bow:

"You truly mean that," they spoke odd, their words knowing.

And they truly did know, glimpsing the futures past.

He realized it, but even if all-knowing,

They were his child first and greatly magical last.
