After dwelling on the surface world for a few days, Verdandi sought the help of a more experienced dungeoneer, Phoebe the Bright-eyed. Phoebe was polite and an expert at navigating the dungeons, which were her favourite place in the world. They re-entered the dungeon and together they made their way down to the second level of the depths, a place Verdandi had never found on her own. Here the heat was intense and the air was filled with smoke and fumes. Although the travellers didn't share the same interests, Phoebe not caring for treasure while Verdandi loved it, they still got along well and overcame any obstacle in front of them.

Eventually, the mares crawled through a tight tunnel and emerged into a large cavern, completely dark except for a small fire. The fire grew as a figure came closer and closer to the dungeoneers who stood frozen in place. In front of them stood a tall, cloaked being, engulfed in flames and unmoving. It suddenly reached out its blistered hand and held it towards the mares who glared at each other.

"It wants something from us!" Verdandi almost yelled to Phoebe.

"Uh, we're not giving it anything," Phoebe stated calmly, "let's hurry out of here now."

With that, the pair turned and crawled out of the hole they had come from and continued on their journey into the smoking darkness, not speaking of the strange creature they had encountered.
