[DD1] Break a Leg

Perhaps if Mina had been lagging behind, sluggish from a full day of scouting instead of well-rested from sitting atop Moritz' head for the last hour, they would have had less to say. Not that Mina was saying anything worthwhile at the moment. They were mostly laughing; rapidly blinking and floating about in mirthful jubilance.

Moritz on the other hand, was barely managing to keep upright while glowering at Mina as the millipede-bridge roiled beneath them.

"If I break a leg, I'm blaming you," they growled as a thousand limbs waved beneath the bridge like some hideous excuse for an ocean. Mina simply spun in a circle, completely unconcerned about the threats being tossed their way.

Moritz was lucky no one else was around to see the chaos as the millipede bridge began to speed up, chunks of stone falling to the slick moss-covered floor. The bridge had been obvious. Too obvious. Convenient in the way that screamed 'trap' loudly enough that Moritz thought it couldn't actually be a trap.

The fact that it was just made the whole thing more embarrassing. The vibration of so many limbs beneath them was unnerving, but Moritz leaped from stone to stone as the segments of the beast began to twist and turn, each grouping of legs attempting to buck the courser-pest off. But Moritz was accustomed to climbing across perilous rocks and kept their balance. At least until the millipede veered upwards toward a hole in the ceiling on the other side of the chasm.

With no time to make sure Mina was somewhere safe, Moritz changed tactics and bolted as fast as they could across the long body as it began to rotate upside down. Soon, rather than running across stone, Moritz was galloping along the underbelly; tickled on all sides by flailing limbs. One snagged on their mane, but Moritz bit down on the thickest part of the arthropod's leg and wrenched it out of the socket.

Just ahead, Mina was swooping in circles so Moritz took the hint and blindly jumped off the bestial millipede and towards the presumed safety of the ground on the other side of the chasm. The cacophony of thousands of legs scrambling up the rocks and out of sight followed moments after.

Thousands of legs aside from the one in Moritz's mouth. The crunchy leg continued to twitch even after being separated from the rest and they spat the offending limb onto the ground in front of the floating Mina.

"Well, I did break a leg…" Moritz snorted once the rumble of the injured beast had quieted down. Mina spun in several frantic circles around the courser's ears before sheepishly settling back atop Moritz's head in a quiet but amused apology as the paid delved deeper into the cave.
