Shamrock rose before the sun had fully crested the horizon. Dawn still slumbered peacefully in her little corner, cushioned by scraps of fabric Shamrock had brought home from various adventures. He left her a small breakfast of apples and herbs in a pile by her bed, careful not to disturb her. 

He'd be going on another adventure today, but he needed to get his things in order before he set off. He dragged his meager pack to the beam of morning light breaking through the crumbling roof of their shelter so that he could see what he was doing. First, he added some rations for the day. Nothing fancy, just some high energy foods to keep him going. 
Then he added a folded, tattered map he'd found in another dungeon recently, so he could find his way. Last, he added some herbs that he could use for poultices if things got hairy on his adventures. The rest of his pack he left free so he could carry whatever he found home. 

He knew other Coursers went in far more prepared, but he simply lacked the supplies at this point. Maybe one day he'd find the motherload of all loot, and he'd be able to outfit himself more carefully. For now, he'd just have to be satisfied with being careful.
