The Coursers were firmly back to back, battling the enchanted books with all their might. Ancient, brittle pages and dust filled the air. And the screams of the books themselves, reading whatever was on their pages at the highest pitch and volume. Fortune felt a bubble of panic rising within her. Each book she managed to knock down it seemed like three more pelted into her. She was beginning to feel more than a little battered, and didn't think her companions were fairing any better than she was. From her position she could see just how many books still remained on shelves, even as two more tomes buffeted her.

She grimaced as a red gilded book hit the mid section of her back. It had barely bounced off her before it swerved to score another solid hit, this time impacting with her neck. She let out an exasperated huff. As well as their adventures had gone so far, it was clear to Fortune that they were overmatched. This ancient magic wouldn't rest until they were pummeled into the floor. "We need to get out of here!"

She could keep the touch of fear from her voice, but she got the words out, over the shrieking books. As she was facing the door out of the library, she took her opportunity to bolt. As first, the books seemed ready to follow, but as she made it further up the hall away from the library they seemed to hesitate, and the few that continued their pursuit dropped to the ground, unceremoniously. "Hey! I think the magic only extend so far! C'mon!"

She hoped her companions could hear her. She was fully ready to make her escape, and nurse her bruises back on the top side. Thankfully within a few heartbeats she could hear the others following her. Battered and bruised, Fortune was ready to go home.
