[DD1] The Beauty of Friendship

It's the clicking and the hissingthe faint scuffles of mortal struggle on diminutive scalethat draws the attention of a passing Courser. Approaching the source with unbridled curiosity, he discovers the glint and gleam of jewels amongst the barding of Coursers long since gone from this place. Nevertheless, their discarded trappings have provided an arena of linen banners as colourful as the courageous, bedazzled beetles within.

The tenacity of the insects is enough to encourage this equine audience to tally a while, muttering gentle encouragements and congratulations, though these meager contributions hold little sway over the outcome of each bout.

When he catches movement out of the corner of his eye, Lancer's rapt attention is suddenly diverted.

A single hop, or perhaps two, is all that now separates the insectoid gladiators from one of their most sworn enemies—a ravenous amphibian of somewhat significant size, with bulging eyes affixed on the unsuspecting and presently preoccupied beetles.

Lancer puts his hoof down.

"We may share an admiration for these fine creatures, but I cannot in good conscience allow you to interrupt their contest-"

The toad pays Lancer no mind, and attempts to sidle towards a crunchy, glimmering snack.

Lancer scoops the offending beast off the floor, depositing him on a haunch bronzed by a sun this denizen of the deep has yet to see. Soon to be remedied, when this day's adventures are done.

"Pleased to make your acquaintance, my friend... I think I will call you Sebastian. Let's see what other marvels can be found, shall we?"
