Quill tucked behind their ear, notebook under their arm, Moss wandered the dungeon like any eager explorer. Perhaps a little less like those surface dwellers that were not familiar with how the dungeon twisted the ordinary into extraordinary. Or how you had to choose whether to look deep into the shadows to make sure you did not miss anything, or to skim over them to avoid truly seeing. Some things were dangerous to look at. You just had to know which shadows held them!

No problem for Moss. Whose family had dug new halls, swelled into old ones that had long since been abandoned. Had made this place their home, shadows and all.

But there was always more to see. Their world was never ending. Moss could explore for days and weeks on end and never see a familiar corridor, but turn around one and be right on their doorstep. Moss never asked questions, obviously it just meant they were meant to come home.

They had been trying to return home for some days now. Idly looking for anything familiar, taking notes on the new and interesting things they found. 'Notes' being a very loose term. Moss made sketches that only occasionally accurately portrayed what they had seen.

Along the back of one finger, a tiny ant crawled over their hand, climbing up to sit on the knuckle of their thumb, waving little limbs towards them. "Hello Ant," Moss said gently. "Do you know the way home from here?" The ant didn't alter his swaying, just still making the same motion up toward him.

But Moss hadn't seen Ant in some time. So this was probably a sign. Picking a random direction that just felt right, Moss strode off the way they had come. Back down the same hallway. Except it wasn't the same. The end of this corridor bloomed outward and open, into a large, cavernous space, where brightly-haired humans prepared or returned from their own journeys.

He waved to the pink haired Frel and Delano, poked his tongue out at Bug, and headed over to join Frog by the fire. "I saw a cave today," Moss said happily, crossing his feet at the ankles, plopping down beside her.

She turned pale eyes towards him, a small smile. "So did I."
