Prompt: Salamanders are valuable to sell as alchemical components, but they are also overhunted and becoming scarce. You find one that has strayed too far from the magma, its skin beginning to cool and harden. It would be easy to capture it like this. What do you do?

Quartz the mole and Bloop the slime looked worried as they sat on either side of the little salamander. It was drying up and they looked between the small creature and the two coursers also looking it over, debating on what they should do.

“We’d get a good price for it, and this is the perfect chance!” Paladin argued.

“They are going extinct and that’s our fault, the fault of all coursers. We should return it to the magma,” Majesty argued back.

Paladin pouted a bit and sighed.

“There is no way you’re changing your mind, is there?”

“Nope.” Majesty huffed.

She tossed her head up and stared the taller stallion right in the eyes. Her eyes narrowed as Paladin stared back. The two had a stubborn stare down until Paladin began to swarm and spun around, grumbling about how stubborn the mare was.

Majesty looked victorious as she turned around. Quartz and Bloop helped to lift the salamander and placed it on her nose. Bloop followed and kept the salamander from squirming as they began to make their way back towards the magma. The closer they got the hotter it got, just as they thought the Earthen Furnace couldn’t get hotter.

“I’ll wait here!” Paladin called.

“Okay!” Majesty replied, rolling her eyes.

Quartz stayed with Paladin and patted the stallion on the leg as if to tell him that they were making the right decision in returning the salamander so that the species could maybe survive.

Majesty reached the edge of the magma and lowered her head. Bloop helped get the salamander off the courser’s nose and they placed it right at the edge of the magma. The salamander opened their eyes and seemed surprised, but took the opportunity to take off, back into the magma where it belonged.

“There! That wasn’t so hard,” Majesty chimed as she pranced back over to Paladin.

“But the coins…”

“Oh, stop thinking with your wallet.”

Majesty rolled her eyes. They left the magma behind with Paladin pouting and Majesty looking proud. She had accomplished a good deed and she wasn’t gonna let the moody bay tobiano ruin it for her.
